New directional bat algorithm for continuous optimization problems [PDF]
Bat algorithm (BA) is a recent optimization algorithm based on swarm intelligence and inspiration from the echolocation behavior of bats. One of the issues in the standard bat algorithm is the premature convergence that can occur due to the low ...

A Natural Sweetener‐inducible Genetic Switch Controls Therapeutic Protein Expression in Mammals
This study develops a natural sweetener, the psicose‐inducible transgene expression (PURE) system based on an Agrobacterium tumefaciens–derived transcriptional repressor PsiR. The PURE system is highly specific to psicose, being insensitive to other sugars and structurally similar molecules.

A SARS-like cluster of circulating bat coronaviruses shows potential for human emergence
The emergence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS)-CoV underscores the threat of cross-species transmission events leading to outbreaks in humans. Here we examine the disease potential of

Chaos-enhanced synchronized bat optimizer
In this paper, a chaos-enhanced bat algorithm is proposed to tackle the global optimization problems. Bat algorithm is a relatively new stochastic optimizer inspired by the echolocation behavior of bats in nature.

Ufmylation‐Deficient DDRGK1 Ameliorates Obesity by Inhibiting FASN‐Mediated Adipocyte Lipogenesis
DDRGK1 regulates de novo lipogenesis via stabilization of fatty acid synthase (FASN). DDRGK1‐mediated UFMylation of FASN prevents its ubiquitin–proteasomal degradation. Reduced DDRGK1 expression or mutation at the key UFMylation site enhances FASN degradation and suppresses fatty acid synthesis (FAS), resulting in smaller adipocytes and improved ...

First Report on Association of Hyperuricemia with Type 2 Diabetes in a Vietnamese Population
Background. Uric acid is a powerful free-radical scavenger in humans, but hyperuricemia may induce insulin resistance and beta-cell dysfunction. The study aimed to evaluate the association between hyperuricemia and hyperglycemia, considering the ...

Serological Evidence of Bat SARS-Related Coronavirus Infection in Humans, China
In our previous works, we have reported genetically diverse SARS-related coronaviruses (SARSr-CoV) in a single bat cave, Yunnan province, China, and suggested that some SARSr-CoVs may have high potential to infect humans without the necessity for an ...

4‐HBA upregulates NKIRAS2 levels, inhibiting the activation of the NF‐κB pathway and subsequently reducing the levels of neuroinflammatory markers. This modulation helps restore normal mood and behavior in hyperlipidemic conditions, providing a potential therapeutic strategy for managing hyperlipidemia‐associated depression.

The NO content of the gas-vapour phase of cigarette smoke is determined by a simple colourimetric procedure: NO is absorbed by a solution of FeSO4 in diluted H2SO4 up to an equilibrium with the formation of the addition compound Fe•NO•SO4.

We identify an antagonistic ubiquitin circuit that controls cellular permissiveness to multiple coronaviruses. The deubiquitinase USP7 stabilizes the epigenetic regulator KDM6A to upregulate viral receptors, while the E3 ligase RNF40 degrades KDM6A by catalyzing K6/K11‐ubiquitin chains of KDM6A for autophagic degradation.
