Reporting and batch processing
2003To this point in the book — and although you may not have realized it — our focus has been around online transaction processing (OLTP) applications. We’ve discussed how to create business objects that model entities within our problem domain, and how to use them to retrieve and update data from a data store.

In this chapter, we will be looking at how to write a typical batch processing data pipeline using .NET for Apache Spark. We will show how a typical data processing job reads the source data and parses the data including dealing with any oddities the source files may have and then write the files out to a common format that other consumers of the data ...

The initial applications of computers to commercial data processing were all of a batch nature and although the other processing modes have gained in importance the majority of routine work in most installations is still performed in this way. Nor can this be considered as merely a legacy from a less-sophisticated age of data processing since for some ...

AbstractThe profitability of small‐scale chemical operations is a subject of wide interest in Canada because of the problems arising from a small and spread out domestic market. In this paper the author discusses the place of “Batch Processing Plants” within this context, emphasizing those features having a bearing on the flexibility of operation and ...

Two approaches to monitoring the progress of batch processes are considered. The first approach based on nonlinear state estimation is reviewed and the problems in implementing it are discussed. A second approach based on multi-way principal components analysis can be developed directly from historical operating data.
