A probabilistic model of bathing beach safety

Science of The Total Environment, 1975
An improved mathematical model for bathing beach safety is proposed. It is derived by joining the probability of infection from a given dose (Poisson distribution and the probability of acquiring such a dose (lognormal distribution). Even in the absence of better clinical and epidemiological data, the model permits an assessment of relative risk from ...

Measurement of natural radioactivity in beach sands from Rizhao bathing beach, China

Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 2008
The natural radioactivity of (226)Ra, (232)Th and (40)K was determined for beach sand samples collected from Rizhao bathing beach, China, using gamma ray spectrometry. The measured activity in beach sand ranges from 7.6 to 17.2, 7.8 to 25.1 and 883.4 to 1313.6 Bq kg(-1) for (226)Ra, (232)Th and (40)K with mean values of 12.0, 15.2 and 1079.2 Bq kg(-1),

Intensive water quality monitoring in a Taiwan bathing beach

Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, 2007
A total of 357 water samples were collected from a public beach in northern Taiwan during beach season, and the densities of enterococci were analyzed by Enterolert methods. The mean enterococci level was 356 MPN/100 ml and ranged from 1,000 MPN/100 ml). Most of the deteriorated water quality conditions occurred during rainfall.
