Emergent transport in a many-body open system driven by interacting quantum baths [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We analyze an open many-body system that is strongly coupled at its boundaries to interacting quantum baths. We show that the two-body interactions inside the baths induce emergent phenomena in the spin transport.

Les Thermes du Levant à Leptis Magna : les verres (iie-vie siècles)

open access: yesAntiquités Africaines, 2016
This third preliminary report on the excavations conducted in the Eastern bath by the French archaeological mission in Libya from 1994 to 2012 is dedicated to the material, in glass and in selenite stone. This documentation,

Doing what’s not wanted: Conflict in incentives and misallocation of behavioural control can lead to drug-seeking despite adverse outcomes

open access: yesAddiction Neuroscience, 2023
Despite being aware of negative consequences and wanting to quit, long-term addicts find it difficult to quit seeking and consuming drugs. This inconsistency between the (often compulsive) behavioural patterns and the explicit knowledge of negative ...

Non-equilibrium dynamics of a system with Quantum Frustration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Using flow equations, equilibrium and non-equilibrium dynamics of a two-level system are investigated, which couples via non-commuting components to two independent oscillator baths. In equilibrium the two-level energy splitting is protected when the TLS

Decoherence by engineered quantum baths

open access: yes, 2006
We introduce, and determine decoherence for, a wide class of non-trivial quantum spin baths which embrace Ising, XY and Heisenberg universality classes coupled to a two-level system.

Quantum Environments: Spin Baths, Oscillator Baths, and applications to Quantum Magnetism

open access: yes, 1998
The low-energy physics of systems coupled to their surroundings is understood by truncating to effective Hamiltonians; these tend to reduce to a few canonical forms, involving coupling to "baths" of oscillators or spins.

Controlling tripartite entanglement among optical cavities by reservoir engineering

open access: yes, 2015
We study how to control the dynamics of tripartite entanglement among optical cavities using non-Markovian baths. In particular, we demonstrate how the reservoir engineering through the utilization of non-Markovian baths with different types of ...

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Non-equilibrium entangled steady state of two independent two-level systems

open access: yes, 2011
We determine and study the steady state of two independent two-level systems weakly coupled to a stationary non-equilibrium environment. Whereas this bipartite state is necessarily uncorrelated if the splitting energies of the two-level systems are ...
