Abstract The seafloor morphology and subsurface geometry of a late Neogene contourite drift located along the Peru margin is documented for the first time using multibeam bathymetry, two‐dimensional and three‐dimensional seismic data. Along the margin several submarine canyons incise the shelf and slope.

ABSTRACT Environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding can rapidly characterise biodiversity, yet its accuracy and effectiveness are limited by incomplete DNA barcode reference databases. We evaluated how comprehensive reference databases that include sequence variation within genomes (intragenomic) and across individuals and species (intergenomic) improve ...

Methane‐Derived Carbon Contributes to Fish Biomass in a Deep, Eutrophic Reservoir
ABSTRACT Methanotrophic bacteria oxidise large amounts of biogenic methane produced in freshwater and bind the original methane carbon in their biomass. When these bacteria are consumed by other organisms, methane‐derived carbon enters food webs. Methane‐derived carbon can support a substantial part of invertebrate biomass in some freshwater ecosystems.

Intertidal systems provide important wintering areas for migratory shorebirds, where they can both forage and roost. In the light of climate change, extreme wind speeds are predicted to occur more frequently in northwestern Europe and pose a threat to shorebirds.

ABSTRACT The pygmy right whale (Caperea marginata) is one of the least studied mysticete species. To shed light on its geographic and seasonal distribution, we compiled archival acoustic recordings from 26 sites across southern Australia and developed a deep‐learning detector for pygmy right whale “doublet” vocalizations.
