AQS-20 sonar processing enhancement for bathymetry estimation
Proceedings of OCEANS 2005 MTS/IEEE, 2005Bathymetry is used to determine optimal tactics during Mine Warfare operations. Previous work demonstrated that bathymetric data could be acquired from the Volume Search Sonar (VSS) mounted on the AQS-20 system. The VSS transmitter produces a pulse at approximately one-second intervals along the track.

Estimating Nearshore Bathymetry from X-Band Radar Data
2015In the last few years a number of land- and ship- based X-band radar systems have been developed to collect information on the sea state, i.e. on the significant wave height as well a s on its spectral distribution. More recently, new techniques have been developed to estimate shallow water bathymetry, by taking into account the effects of depth on the

Estimating melt pond bathymetry from aerial images using photogrammetry
2021
Melt ponds play a key role for the summery energy budget of the Arctic sea-ice surface. Observational data that enable an integrated understanding and improved formulation of the thermodynamic and hydrological pond system in global climate models are spatially and temporally limited.

Previous studies ...

Bathymetry estimates in the southern oceans from Seasat altimetry
Nature, 1983A 70-day Seasat altimeter set, where altitude was determined by the delay of a radar signal before return, was high pass filtered to obtain bathymetric data on the southern ocean. Variations were estimated over cross-track passages over the same points, and longer wavelength effects were removed to reveal the shorter wavelength geoid features.

River Bathymetry Estimate and Discharge Assessment from Remote Sensing
Water Resources Research, 2019AbstractThe NASA Surface Water Ocean Topography (SWOT) mission and ESA Sentinel‐1, inter‐alia, propose to monitor inland waters from satellites. The radar altimeter and the microwave radiometer can be used to monitor water surface level and assess the cross‐sectional mean flow velocity, respectively.

Global 1D river bathymetry estimation from remotely sensed observations
Flooding has major economic, social, and environmental implications. Its modeling provides insights into potential risks and contributes to the protection of lives, natural resources, and infrastructure. In flood hazard assessment, the topography representation is a key factor as it dictates the water extent resulting from the simulations. InIsadora Rezende de Oliveira Silva +5 more

Wave Period and Bathymetry Estimations from Satellite Images
2016We present an approach for wave period and coastal water depth estimation. The approach based on wave observations, is entirely independent of ancillary data and can theoretically be applied to SAR or optical images. In order to demonstrate its feasibility we apply our method to more than 50 Sentinel-1A images of the Hawaiian Islands, well-known for ...
