The Monumental Mistake of Evicting Bats from Archaeological Sites—A Reflection from New Delhi
We highlight the importance of an integrated management policy for archaeological monuments and the insect-eating bats that roost inside them. We refer to India, but the issue is general and of worldwide significance.

Predicting Batting Averages in Specific Matchups Using Generalized Linked Matrix Factorization [PDF]
Predicting batting averages for specific batters against specific pitchers is a challenging problem in baseball. Previous methods for estimating batting averages in these matchups have used regression models that can incorporate the pitcher's and batter's individual batting averages.

Accurate Target Localization by using Artificial Pinnae of brown long-eared bat [PDF]
Echolocating bats locate the targets by echolocation. Many theoretical frameworks have been suggested the abilities of bats are related to the shapes of bats ears, but few artificial bat-like ears have been made to mimic the abilities, the difficulty of which lies in the determination of the elevation angle of the target.

Abstract Non‐binary and genderqueer identities are increasingly discussed in public discourse and academia, but there remains a dearth of academic literature centred on non‐binary people's lives and experiences. When non‐binary people are included in research, it is frequently as an additive to explorations of trans identities and subsumed under the ...

Vertical variation in flight activity of the lesser short-tailed bat in podocarp and beech forests, Central North Island, New Zealand [PDF]
Designing robust monitoring programmes for cryptic species is particularly difficult. Not detecting a species does not necessarily mean that it is absent from the sampling area. A conclusion of absence made in error can lead to misguided inferences about

Can acoustic recordings of cave-exiting bats in winter estimate bat abundance in hibernacula?
Many bat species in North America face precarious futures due to white-nose syndrome and wind energy development. These threats, and others, make it imperative to monitor long-term population fluctuations of bats.

Insectivorous bats are generalist predators and can flexibly respond to fluctuations in the distribution and abundance of insect prey. To better understand the effects of bats on arthropod pests, the types of pests eaten by bats and the response of bats ...

Bat Algorithm is Better Than Intermittent Search Strategy [PDF]
The efficiency of any metaheuristic algorithm largely depends on the way of balancing local intensive exploitation and global diverse exploration. Studies show that bat algorithm can provide a good balance between these two key components with superior efficiency.
