Battered Women—Their Susceptibility to Treatment

An annual rhythm in the battering of women
American Journal of Psychiatry, 1986Over 27,000 reports about women abused by their live-in male partners were provided by 23 shelter organizations in five locations in the United States. Cosinor analyses revealed statistically significant annual rhythms in the frequencies of abuse, with maxima in the summer.

Community Mental Health Journal, 1985This paper describes one variation in the battering phenomenon which was initially observed among low-income women. The strategies of coercion and deception utilized by the abusive male in these relationships are described and compared with similar strategies of "mind control" utilized in more traditional "cultic" systems.

The Voices of Battered Women in India
Violence Against Women, 2005This study endeavors to give voice to marginalized, understudied women who were abused in India. The study included 90 women who were abused who were seeking help to address violence perpetrated against them by their husbands.
