A Lightweight Procedural Layer for Hybrid Experimental–Computational Workflows in Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We unveil a prototype hybrid‐workflow framework that fuses automatedcomputation with hands‐on experiments. Built atop pyiron, a lightweight, parameterized layer translates procedure descriptions into executable manual steps, syncing instrument settings, human interventions, and data capture in real‐time today.

Equi–size nesting of Platonic and Archimedean metal–organic polyhedra into a twin capsid

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
Supramolecular constructs that mimic complex biological assemblies are synthetically challenging. Here, the authors present a double-shell cage wherein two independent metal-organic polyhedra are nested together in a manner analogous to that found in ...

Recycling of NiTi Shape Memory Alloys: Fundamental and Technological Aspects of a Vacuum Induction Melting Processing Route

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The present study investigates recycling of NiTi shape memory alloys via vacuum induction melting. An ingot was synthesized from elemental Ni and Ti and subjected to three subsequent remelting cycles. Remelting increases process durations and impurity levels and adversely affects microstructures and functional properties.

Mechanically Unwinding Carbon Nanotubes Enables Homogeneous Conductive Networks in High‐Loading Dry Cathodes for Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesSmall Structures
The expanding electric vehicle market has driven an urgent demand for high‐energy‐density lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs). Solvent‐free dry‐processed electrodes offer strong potential for thick electrode development, but increasing thickness exacerbates the

Microstructure Reconstruction in Battery Electrodes Using Machine Learning Based on Low‐Voltage Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy Tomography Images

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.

Silver exsolution from Li-argyrodite electrolytes for initially anode-free all-solid-state batteries

open access: yesNature Communications
Achieving stable cyclability in initially anode-free all-solid-state batteries is challenging due to non-uniform Li (de)plating, especially under practical operating conditions.

Inhibition of oxygen dimerization by local symmetry tuning in Li-rich layered oxides for improved stability

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
Li-rich layered oxide cathodes show high capacities in Li-ion batteries but suffer from structural degradation via O–O dimerization. Here, the authors present local-symmetry-tuned Li2RuO3 with oxygen redox involving a telescopic O–Ru–O configuration ...

Hybrid Metal–Carbon Ink for Printed Stretchable Temperature Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We prepare conductive inks for temperature sensing with silver flakes and carbon or graphite flakes in a silicone elastomer matrix. Silver dominates the temperature‐dependent conductivity, while the carbon filler network ensures the stability of the conductive pathways and retains function under strain.
