Dioxygen Activation by Caenorhabditis elegans Ferritin: The Effect of the Second‐Coordination Sphere on O2 Reduction to H2O2

A combined molecular dynamics and quantum mechanics study of a ferritin structure where one of the iron atoms is linked to an Asn residue is presented. The effect of the second‐coordination sphere on mechanism in ferritins is investigated. Ferritins are important proteins that store and detoxify iron.
