Abstract Eight Ml ≥ 7.0 earthquakes have occurred around the Bayan Har block, NW Tibet, China, since 2000, resulting in a large number of casualties. Near the western boundary of the Bayan Har block, four Ml ≥ 6.0 Yutian earthquakes have occurred from 2008 to 2020.

Abstract A 3D viscoelastic finite-element model of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, including the Bayan Har block, is established in this article. This model takes into consideration differences in the regional geological structure, the main active fault zone, the active tectonic block (hereafter referred to as a block) and boundary fault zone, the ...

INVESTIGATION ON DIVERSITY OF CRUSTAL STRUCTURES BENEATH THE BAYAN HAR BLOCK
Chinese Journal of Geophysics, 2017AbstractCrustal lithology transformation, lithological variations with depth and tectonic deformation in the Tibetan plateau are the key to explore the crustal thickening and material motion in this region. Located in the central plateau, the Bayan Har block has a vast geographical territory. To make a further study on the fine crustal structure in the

ABSTRACT The 2017 Mw 6.5 Jiuzhaigou mainshock hit the northeastern end of the Bayan Har block, which has experienced many historical earthquakes, including the 1976 M 7.2 Songpan-Pingwu earthquake swarm. We used the double-difference tomography method to perform a joint inversion of the seismic source and P-wave velocity (VP) structure ...

Discovery of the Longriba fault zone in eastern Bayan Har block, China and its tectonic implication
Science in China Series D: Earth Sciences, 2008Re-measured GPS data have recently revealed that a broad NE trending dextral shear zone exists in the eastern Bayan Har block about 200 km northwest of the Longmenshan thrust on the eastern margin of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The strain rate along this shear zone may reach up to 4–6 mm/a.
