Seismic risk in the east of the Bayan Har block based on the POT model

open access: yesGeomatics, Natural Hazards & Risk, 2022
This article elaborates on a peaks over threshold (POT) model with earthquake samples based on the Pareto distribution. We analyze the earthquakes using the POT model in the eastern Bayan Har block.

The Evolution of Stress and Strain around the Bayan Har Block in the Tibetan Plateau [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Earthquakes, 2015
With the constraint of GPS observation, the tectonic deformation of the Bayan Har block and its periphery faults is investigated based on an elastoplastic plane-stress finite element model. The results show that the elastic model cannot explain the current GPS observation in the Bayan Har block.

Finite element simulation of stress change for the MS7.4 Madoi earthquake and implications for regional seismic hazards

open access: yesEarthquake Research Advances, 2022
On May 22, 2021, the MS 7.4 earthquake occurred in Madoi County, Qinghai Province; it was another strong event that occurred within the Bayan Har block after the Dari MS 7.7 earthquake in 1947.

Bayesian inversion for modelling 3-D density structures in the eastern margin of Bayan Har block and its tectonic implications

open access: yesGeophysical Journal International, 2023
SUMMARY Recently, the eastern margin of the Tibetan plateau has experienced three moderate earthquakes. Deep crustal structure is a critical factor for understanding the seismotectonic environment and deformations in this region. Although several multidisciplinary geophysical approaches have been used to develop crustal structure models ...

Present-Day Crustal Deformation of the Northwestern Tibetan Plateau Based on InSAR Measurements

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2023
In this study, The ENVISAT advanced synthetic aperture radar observations from 2003 to 2010 of a descending track covering an area of 100 km × 300 km were used to map the surface velocity field in northwestern Tibet.

Typical Riedel shear structures of the coseismic surface rupture zone produced by the 2021 Mw 7.3 Maduo earthquake, Qinghai, China, and the implications for seismic hazards in the block interior

open access: yesNatural Hazards Research, 2021
Large earthquakes in the Tibetan Plateau generally occur on block-boundary faults and produce coseismic surface ruptures that indicate the sense of block movement. However, seismic hazard in the block is less concerned.

Extraction and Discrimination of MBT Anomalies Possibly Associated with the Mw 7.3 Maduo (Qinghai, China) Earthquake on 21 May 2021

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2021
Earthquakes are one of the most threatening natural disasters to human beings, and pre- and post-earthquake microwave brightness temperature (MBT) anomalies have attracted increasing attention from geosciences as well as remote sensing communities ...

Coulomb stress changes associated with the M7.3 Maduo earthquake and implications for seismic hazards

open access: yesNatural Hazards Research, 2021
On May 21, 2021, the M7.3 Maduo earthquake occurred within the Bayan Har Block, one of the most seismically active regions in the Tibetan Plateau. This aroused attention to the seismic hazards in this block.

Characteristics and causes of coseismic surface rupture triggered by the "5.22" MS 7.4 Earthquake in Maduo, Qinghai, and their significance

open access: yesDizhi lixue xuebao, 2021
An MS 7.4 earthquake occurred in Maduo County, Guoluo Tibetan Prefecture, Qinghai Province at 02:04 on May 22, 2021(Beijing time), which is the largest one in China after the 2008 Wenchuan MS 8.0 earthquake.

Aerial Mapping of Coseismic Surface Rupture of 2021 Mw 7.3 Maduo Earthquake, China

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
The 2021 Mw 7.3 Maduo earthquake is one of the largest seismic events that has occurred in and around the Bayan Har block of Tibet. D-InSAR results and field surveys indicate that this earthquake resulted in more than 160 km of coseismic surface rupture ...
