Improving the Bayer Process productivity – An industrial case study
Minerals Engineering, 2009Alumina production through Bayer Process is limited by the instability of soluble sodium aluminate in the supersaturated solutions used by the alumina refineries. The precipitation of aluminum hydrate can occur in equipment not designed for this purpose, causing significant loss of production.

Red Mud Flocculants Used in the Bayer Process
2011Flocculation and separation of red mud is an integral part of the Bayer process. Over the latter half of the 20th century, flocculant technology dramatically changed from natural starches to use of “rationally designed” polymers. Many of these advancements were due to the introduction of liquid or emulsion based flocculants which enabled elaborate post-

Investigation of zeolite scales formed in the Bayer process
Microporous and Mesoporous Materials, 2000Abstract Synthetic sodium aluminosilicate Bayer refinery scale has been prepared in 8 and 4.2 M sodium hydroxide solutions at four temperatures in the temperature range 80–240°C. The effect of different anions (CO32−, OH− SO42−, Cl− and C2O42−) and varying anion concentrations (10−2–10−1 M) on the type of aluminosilicate phase formed has also been ...

Sizing an Organic Control System for the Bayer Process
2016Organic materials are introduced to the Bayer process by almost all bauxites. Over time, the accumulation of organic matter in some Bayer liquors decreases liquor and plant productivity. The organics level can be limited by some form of liquor purging, or by operating an organics control system.
