Stability Bias in Lagrangian (Back)tracking in Divergent Flows

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, Volume 18, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Forward‐ and backward‐in‐time Lagrangian advection, used to determine fate and origin of material in the ocean, are mathematically consistent. However, their numerical computations are hampered by round‐off and truncation errors. Trajectory calculations are stable to errors (i.e., errors are dampened) in zones of velocity convergence and ...

Coding 1‐Bit Programmable Metasurface Based on Bayesian Learning With a Hierarchical Truncated Gaussian Mixture Prior Model

open access: yesIET Microwaves, Antennas &Propagation, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
In this work, a Bayesian learning approach is introduced for coding 1‐bit programmable metasurfaces. To improve the coding performance, we leverage prior information about the reflectance phase difference between the ‘1’ and ‘0’ coding states, which is represented by a hierarchical TGM model.

On pooling‐based track fusion strategies: Harmonic mean density

open access: yesIET Radar, Sonar &Navigation, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
Pooling strategies are viable techniques for distributed fusion since they do not require ‘extra’ information from local nodes. Harmonic mean density fusion is an attractive method among pooling strategies as it can fuse both Gaussian and Gaussian mixture densities easily.

Human Stress Detection Technologies: An In‐Depth Comparison of Machine Learning Algorithms and Applications

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, Volume 2026, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
ABSTRACT Workload pressure, examination stress, family responsibilities, and a variety of other factors all contribute to an increase in stress in the body. Stress weakens the human mind and body by accelerating several health disorders. Therefore, the number of approaches for early projection of stress plays a vital role in the healthcare sector ...

Natal philopatry, dispersal and age of first breeding in relation to size and sex of Arctic Terns (Sterna paradisaea)

open access: yesIbis, Volume 168, Issue 1, Page 79-94, January 2026.
Many seabird species are in decline and population demographic models are important for revealing the causes and developing conservation strategies. Natal and breeding dispersal are key parameters of such models but can be challenging to estimate and may vary by sex.
