Incremental Compilation of Bayesian networks

open access: yesCoRR, 2003
Most methods of exact probability propagation in Bayesian networks do not carry out the inference directly over the network, but over a secondary structure known as a junction tree or a join tree (JT). The process of obtaining a JT is usually termed {sl compilation}. As compilation is usually viewed as a whole process; each time the network is modified,

Sustainable Materials Design With Multi‐Modal Artificial Intelligence

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Critical mineral scarcity, high embodied carbon, and persistent pollution from materials processing intensify the need for sustainable materials design. This review frames the problem as multi‐objective optimization under heterogeneous, high‐dimensional evidence and highlights multi‐modal AI as an enabling pathway.

Diagnostic Bayesian networks

open access: yesComput. Artif. Intell., 1997
Summary: The paper presents a causal-probabilistic approach to the technical diagnosis in which the solution of the technical diagnostic problem is considered as a probabilistic inference on a special kind of Bayesian networks called diagnostic Bayesian networks.

Unifying Composition and Process Design: A Heterogeneous Graph Neural Network for Discovering High‐Performance Cu Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By overcoming the fixed‐path limitations of conventional machine learning, a heterogeneous graph neural network fundamentally reconstructs material data representation. Integrating variable processing sequences with intrinsic elemental features, this framework enables exploratory optimization across high‐dimensional spaces.

Empirical evaluation of scoring functions for Bayesian network model selection

open access: yesBMC Bioinformatics, 2012
In this work, we empirically evaluate the capability of various scoring functions of Bayesian networks for recovering true underlying structures. Similar investigations have been carried out before, but they typically relied on approximate learning ...

Interpretable Machine Learning Framework for Nb─Si Based Alloy Design with Enhanced Fracture Toughness

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An interpretable machine learning framework integrating SHAP and PDP analysis identifies critical design descriptors from 139 physicochemical features for Nb─Si alloys. The framework achieves <7% prediction error and guides the discovery of Nb38.5Ti38.5Si3Zr18V2 alloy with 22.791 MPa·m1/2 fracture toughness, breaking the 20 MPa·m1/2 barrier.

Inference in Bayesian Networks.

open access: yesAI Mag., 1999
A Bayesian network is a compact, expressive representation of uncertain relationships among parameters in a domain. In this article, I introduce basic methods for computing with Bayesian networks, starting with the simple idea of summing the probabilities of events of interest. The article introduces major current methods for exact computation, briefly

Polarization Dynamics in Ferroelectrics: Insights Enabled by Machine Learning Molecular Dynamics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Machine learning molecular dynamics is presented as a route to capture polarization switching, domain wall kinetics, topological polar textures, and polar mechanical coupling beyond the limits of conventional atomistic methods. This Perspective surveys recent progress and identifies key methodological directions, including long‐range electrostatics ...

A Global Methane Observation System to Reduce Uncertainty for Anthropogenic and Natural Sources and Sinks for Detecting and Attributing Climate Feedbacks

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Conceptual illustration of a Global Ecosystem Methane Observing System (GEM‐OS) integrating satellites, aircraft, atmospheric networks, and ecosystem measurements to quantify methane emissions from anthropogenic and natural sources. The multi‐scale observing framework improves source attribution, reduces uncertainty in regional methane budgets, and ...

CoSP: Reconfigurable Metamaterial Inverse Design via Contrastive Pretrained Large Language Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this work, CoSP (contrastive multi‐state pretrain), an intelligent inverse design method for reconfigurable metamaterials based on a contrastive pretrained large language model, is proposed. Numerical experiments demonstrate that CoSP can design reconfigurable metamaterial structures for multi‐state, multi‐band optical responses, showing great ...
