On state of commercial herd of chum salmon Oncorhynchus keta and forecasting its abundance at Iturup Island

open access: yesИзвестия ТИНРО, 2023
Population dynamics and size-age structure are analyzed for the chum salmon herd formed in the Prostor and Kurilsky Bays of Iturup Island (Kuril Islands). Release of chum juveniles into the waters of the bays increased from 10.7.106 ind. in 1996 to 197.6.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Reduction of Machine Tool Times Through a Software/Hardware Integrated Solution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Toolmaking is an industry that creates metal moulds, generally of durable tool steels, for producing vacuum-formed and injection moulded plastic parts, which are used in thousands of everyday items such as mobile phones. At present toolmaking is labour

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Changes in species compositions of fish in the bays of the Northwestern Gulf of Mexico

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2023
IntroductionLocal biodiversity is increasing in many temperate and subtropical waters due to climate change. It is often caused by shifting fish distributions, thus the biodiversity gradient, from lower to higher latitudes.

Subglacial discharges create fluctuating foraging hotspots for sea birds in tidewater glacier bays

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Although the processes occurring at the front of an ice face in tidewater glacier bays still await thorough investigation, their importance to the rapidly changing polar environment is spurring a considerable research effort.

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Intense Storms Increase the Stability of Tidal Bays

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2018
Coastal bays and, specifically, back‐barrier tidal basins host productive ecosystems, coastal communities, and critical infrastructure. As sea level continues to rise and tropical cyclones increase in intensity, these coastal systems are increasingly at ...

Discovery and Targeted Proteomic Studies Reveal Striatal Markers Validated for Huntington's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Clinical trials for Huntington's disease (HD) enrolling persons before clinical motor diagnosis (CMD) lack validated biomarkers. This study aimed to conduct an unbiased discovery analysis and a targeted examination of proteomic biomarkers scrutinized by clinical validation. Methods Cerebrospinal fluid was obtained from PREDICT‐HD and
