Impact Assessment of Beach Erosion from Construction of Artificial Coastal Structures Using Parabolic Bay Shape Equation

open access: yes한국해양공학회지, 2020
Wave field changes resulting from artificial coastal structures constructed in coastal zones have emerged as a major cause of beach erosion, among other factors.

Arthroscopic Bicortical Biceps Anchorage: An Arthroscopic‐Assisted Technique for Subpectoral Biceps Tenodesis

open access: yesArthroscopy Techniques, EarlyView.
Abstract Long head of the biceps tendon pathology is a frequent cause of anterior shoulder pain. Tenotomy is technically simple but may lead to cosmetic deformity and muscle cramping, whereas tenodesis better preserves the biceps contour but involves a more complex procedure. Multiple surgical techniques and fixation methods are available.

Rip Currents and Beach Safety Education [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Coastal Research, 2010
Rip currents are the most serious hazard that threatens bather safety on most of the world’s surf beaches. Due to unreliable and inconsistent data collection methods, the number of rip drownings in the U.S. and worldwide is not known. However in the U.S., it is estimated that between 100 and 150, mostly inexperienced bathers drown annually in rip ...

Supine‐Position Shoulder Arthroscopy Using the Anterior Portal as the Initial Approach

open access: yesArthroscopy Techniques, EarlyView.
Abstract Traditional shoulder arthroscopy mostly adopts the beach chair position or lateral decubitus position. Beach chair position is associated with the risk of cerebral hypoperfusion due to the vertical distance between the carotid artery and the heart, whereas lateral decubitus may induce brachial plexus palsy caused by excessive traction.

Mapping Heavy Metal Concentrations in Beach Sands Using GIS and Portable XRF Data

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2019
It is necessary to investigate the contamination of beach sands to ensure water safety, as they may contain potentially toxic trace elements. Tourists, oil spills, or replenishing sands can cause beach sand contamination.

Integrating agro‐residue valorization and clean hydrogen production: coconut fiber‐based catalysts for NaBH4 hydrolysis

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract A novel phosphoric acid‐treated green coconut fiber (GCF‐C) was developed as a catalyst for hydrogen production from the hydrolysis of sodium borohydride (NaBH4). Characterization techniques confirmed structural modifications, including X‐ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, X‐ray fluorescence, Fourier transform infrared, and ...

Augmented reality concept to improve public awareness and safety at the beach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Rip currents pose a threat to the safety of bathers at most beaches around the world. Risk perception and swimming preference are critical factors for safety at beaches.

Bridging the Gap: Student Voices on Recruitment and Retention in Ecology

open access: yesThe Bulletin of the Ecological Society of America, EarlyView.
Abstract Students entering ecology and environmental science face a variety of challenges, including limited awareness of career paths, lack of mentorship, and difficulties connecting with peers and faculty. These challenges are often amplified for students from marginalized backgrounds, who may also encounter microaggressions, underrepresentation, and
