A prediction of welding process parameters by prediction of back-bead geometry

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2000
Abstract In this paper, results with regard to the geometry prediction of the back-bead in gas metal arc welding where a gap exists were compared. Methods using in geometry prediction were employed multiple regression analysis and artificial neural network.

A scheme of comprehensive assessment of weld bead geometry

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2015
Weld bead geometry is a complex multi-input multi-output system. The relation between every individual geometrical feature and welding process parameter of a weld bead is unique, like the weld width, reinforcement height, and penetration depth. A comprehensive assessment scheme for weld bead geometry is proposed.

Ultrasonic Detection of Weld Bead Geometry

1987
The three basic components needed to truly automate a welding machine are being investigated in a joint research effort involving the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory (INEL) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). These are: sensors to detect the physical properties of the weld, a model of the welding process, and a control system ...

Intelligent process model for bead geometry prediction in WAAM

Materials Today: Proceedings, 2018
Abstract Wire and arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) is a predominant technique for metal based additive manufacturing process. In this process, generation of layers by depositing beads puts high emphasis on single bead geometry. This paper focuses controlling the bead geometry by suitable selection of welding process parameters.

On-line learning of welding bead geometry in industrial robots

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2015
In this paper, we propose an architecture based on an artificial neural network (ANN), to learn welding skills automatically in industrial robots. With the aid of an optic camera and a laser-based sensor, the bead geometry (width and height) is measured.
