Effects of MIG process parameters on the geometry and dilution of the bead in the automatic surfacing [PDF]

open access: yesResearch in Agricultural Engineering, 2011
Automatic weld surfacing is being employed increasingly in the process, mining and power industries. Gas metal arc welding has become a natural choice for automatic surfacing due to its important properties. These include: high reliability, all positions capabilities, ease of use, low cost and high productivity.

Sensor Fusion to Estimate the Depth and Width of the Weld Bead in Real Time in GMAW Processes

open access: yesSensors, 2018
The arc welding process is widely used in industry but its automatic control is limited by the difficulty in measuring the weld bead geometry and closing the control loop on the arc, which has adverse environmental conditions.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Planar Hall effect bridge geometries optimized for magnetic bead detection [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Physics, 2014
Novel designs of planar Hall effect bridge sensors optimized for magnetic bead detection are presented and characterized. By constructing the sensor geometries appropriately, the sensors can be tailored to be sensitive to an external magnetic field, the magnetic field due to beads being magnetized by the sensor self-field or a combination thereof.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Simulating the build shape for a shell structure for wire and arc additive manufacturing using the bead cross-section model

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2021
Wire and arc additive manufacturing is one of the additive manufacturing processes based on arc welding technology and is particularly useful in fabricating large-sized die and prototype machine parts.

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Parametric Study on GMAW-Based Wire-Arc Additive Manufacturing of Low-Alloy Steels

open access: yesEngineering Proceedings
This study aims to optimize the variables of the gas metal arc welding (GMAW)-based wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) process namely, wire feed speed (WFS), voltage (V), and travel speed (TS), to achieve the desired bead geometries, specifically ...

The crystal structure of the Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase BBE22 resolves a long‐standing annotation error

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase (PncA/BBE22) reveals the correct full‐length protein initiated from a non‐canonical AUU start codon. The structure validates previous biochemical findings and resolves a long‐standing annotation error, demonstrating that the truncated database sequence is structurally incompatible with the ...

Analysis of the combined effects of preheating and welding wire feed rates on the FCAW bead geometric characteristics of 1020 steel using fuzzy logic-based prediction models

open access: yesJournal of the Mechanical Behavior of Materials
Single weld beads were deposited on a steel plate using three different welding wire feed rates (slow, medium, and fast). The samples were preheated before welding at three different temperatures (100, 150, and 200°C).
