A universal polymerase chain reaction for the detection of psittacine beak and feather disease virus

Veterinary Microbiology, 1999
A universal PCR assay was designed that consistently detected psittacine beak and feather disease virus (BFDV) in psittacine birds affected with psittacine beak and feather disease (PBFD) from different geographic regions across Australia. Primers within open reading frame 1 (ORF1) of the BFDV genome consistently amplified a 717 bp product from blood ...

A quantitative, real-time polymerase chain reaction assay for beak and feather disease virus

Journal of Virological Methods, 2009
PCR-based assays for the detection of BFDV DNA are in widespread use throughout the world. Quantitative real-time PCR assays are extremely sensitive and have the advantages over standard PCR assays that they do not require post-reaction processing to visualise PCR products and can quantify the amount of DNA present in a sample.

The Sensitivities of Various Erythrocytes in a Haemagglutination Assay for the Detection of Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease Virus

Journal of Veterinary Medicine, Series B, 2000
SummaryThe erythrocytes of various species were tested in psittacine beak and feather disease (PBFD) virus haemagglutination (HA) and haemagglutination inhibition assays to determine which are suitable for use in these assays. HA activity was observed for erythrocytes of the salmon‐crested cockatoo, the sulphur‐crested cockatoo, the umbrella cockatoo ...

First detection of psittacine beak and feather disease virus in Croatia

Hrvatski veterinarski vjesnik - Hrvatsko veterinarsko društvo, 2005
Bolest kljuna i perja papiga (Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease-PBFD) neizlječiva je kronična bolest papiga. Očituje se degenerativnim promjenama pernih folikula zbog primarnog umnažanja uzročnog virusa (PBFDV) u bazalnom epitelu. To dovodi do pojave neurednog i zakržljalog perja, sve do njegovog ispadanja.

Engineering in vitro-assembled beak and feather disease virus-like particles loaded with biomolecules

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications
Beak and feather disease virus (BFDV) is a member of the Circoviridae family and causes psittacine beak and feather diseases (PBFD) in birds. Abnormal feathers, brittle claws and beaks, and susceptibility to secondary infections are typical sympotoms of the BFDV-infected birds.
