AbstractThis study investigated the effects of beak trimming on a local broiler breed. A total of 648 one‐day‐old birds were randomly allocated into three treatments: no trimming (NBT), infrared beak trimming (IRBT), and hot‐blade beak trimming (HBBT).

Beak length analysis was undertaken for the arrov, squidNototodarus sloanii in the New Zealand sector of the Southern Ocean between Stewart Island and the Auckland Islands.N. sloanii has a restricted range and is endemic to the waters around New Zealand and its associated southern islands, where it supports a fishery and is preyed upon by a number of ...

A detailed analysis of beak length to body size and mass measurements was carried out for the glacial squid Psychroteuthis glacialis, which is an endemic cephalopod species in the Southern Ocean. Beak lengths (lower rostral length) were measured from 211 specimens which had been sampled in the Atlantic sector of the Southern Ocean.

Beak of cephalopod is an important hard tissue. Understanding the morphology of beak can yield critical information on the role of cephalopods in the ecosystem. The south patagonic stock of the Argentine shortfin squid, Illex argentinus, is not only one of the most important fishing targets, but also one of the most important species in the marine eco ...

Acoustic point-transect distance-sampling surveys have recently been used to estimate the density of beaked whales. Typically, the fraction of short time “snapshots” with detected beaked whales is used in this calculation. Beaked whale echolocation pulses are only intermittently available, which may affect the best choice of snapshot length. The effect

A test structure for geometrical measurements on bipolar processes is presented. Both bird's beak length and misalignment between active areas and active area openings in a polysilicon emitter bipolar technology can be obtained from a unique measurement using it.

AbstractLittle is known about the influence of genetic architecture on local adaptation. We investigated the genetic architecture of the rapid contemporary evolution of mouthparts, the flight polymorphism and life history traits in the soapberry bugJadera haematoloma(Hemiptera) using laboratory selection.

A detailed analysis of beak length to body length and weight measurements was carried out for the onychoteuthid squid Moroteuthis ingens, in the Falkland Islands region of the South Atlantic. Lower and upper rostral lengths were both good predictors of mantle length and body weight.
