Giant Bulk Photovoltaic Effect in Two‐Dimensional Topological Ferroelectric Semimetal

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Ferroelectric (FE) metals have attracted growing interest because they combine ferroelectricity with metallic behavior and enable polarization‐controlled band topology near the Fermi level. However, the number of known ferroelectric metals is still limited.

Sliding Ferroelectricity Driven Spin‐Layertronics in Altermagnetic Multilayers

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Integrating sliding ferroelectricity with altermagnetism enables nonvolatile electrical control of spin and layer degrees of freedom. In bilayer CuF2, interlayer translation reverses layer‐locked spin‐split bands, establishing a multifunctional “spin‐layertronic” platform.

Flying turtles in the earliest trees of life: scientific transparency in the phylogenetic works of Ernst Haeckel

open access: yesSwiss Journal of Palaeontology
The evolutionary origin of turtles has long been debated, and recent studies continue to provide conflicting results. In some of the first trees of organisms ever drafted, Ernst Haeckel (1834–1919) placed turtles close to birds based on morphological ...

Attachment sites of generalist ticks on birds depend on environmental factors (habitat and season) rather than on tick species

open access: yesTicks and Tick-Borne Diseases
The aim of this investigation was to analyze predilection sites of ticks on avian hosts according to tick species and developmental stages, as well as individual and ecological characters of bird species (i.e., their age, habitat type, seasonality).

Polarization Dynamics in Ferroelectrics: Insights Enabled by Machine Learning Molecular Dynamics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Machine learning molecular dynamics is presented as a route to capture polarization switching, domain wall kinetics, topological polar textures, and polar mechanical coupling beyond the limits of conventional atomistic methods. This Perspective surveys recent progress and identifies key methodological directions, including long‐range electrostatics ...

Algal Growth on Beaks of Live Parrotfishes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1972
: The algal flora on the beaks of certain parrotfishes is described. No host-specific relationship exists between the algae and fishes. A direct correlation between the length of the algae and the size of the fish is present.

The tadpole of Hypsiboas leptolineatus (Braun and Braun, 1977), a species in the Hypsiboas polytaenius clade (Anura; Hylidae)

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology
The larval morphology of Hypsiboas leptolineatus was studied. The tadpole has an ovoid body in lateral view, wider than deep; snout rounded with dorsal reniform nostrils; spiracle sinistral with lateral wall attached to body; anal tube dextral; tail fins

PRMT5‐Dependent Stabilization of VPS34 Orchestrates Copper Trafficking to Shield Cancer Cells from Cuproptosis and Radiotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Radioresistance arises partly from tumor cells evading cuproptosis via unknown defenses. This study reveals that the PRMT5‐VPS34 axis acts as a radiation‐activated anticuproptotic mechanism: PRMT5 methylates VPS34 at Arg174, recruiting USP10 to remove K48‐linked ubiquitination and prevent degradation.

Description and Analysis of Cephalopod Beaks from Stomachs of Six Species of Odontocete Cetaceans Stranded on Hawaiian Shores

open access: yes, 1998
Cephalopod prey of several cetacean species from Hawaiian waters were identified and quantified from the beaks in stomachs of stranded individuals. The different species of cetaceans all appear to target different species and sizes of cephalopods.

Anisotropic Memristive Switching in NbOCl2 Enabled by Directional Oxygen Ion Migration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study investigates strongly orientation‐dependent memristive switching in anisotropic NbOCl2, observed exclusively along the in‐plane c‐axis. The switching originates from direction‐selective oxygen‐ion migration and vacancy propagation that modulate the Pd/NbOCl2 Schottky barrier, enabling short‐term plasticity.
