Flexible Beam-Column Joints

Volume 3c: 17th Reliability, Stress Analysis and Failure Prevention Conference, 2003
Engineering students learn to analyze beams with fixed or pinned ends. A fixed end transmits moment but does not allow rotation of the end. A pinned end allows rotation but does not transmit any moment. Neither end condition is fully achievable in practice.

Shear strength of beam–column joint with enlarged joint area

Engineering Structures, 2010
Abstract This paper presents planar joint enlargement for increasing the shear strength of sub-standard beam–column joint. Five beam–column specimens were tested under quasi-static cyclic loads. Two control specimens were tested. One was the beam–column joint without joint enlargement and the other was the beam–column joint strengthened by ...

Nonseismic Design of Beam-Column Joints

ACI Structural Journal, 2003
Monotonic tests on beam-column joints show that failure of the connection can either be in the beam (bending failure) or inside the joint (shear and bond failures). The behavior of exterior beam-column joints differs from that of interior connections.

Retrofitting of Exterior Beam-Column Joint—A Review

2021
Repair, retrofitting and strengthening of the reinforced cement concrete (RCC) beams to column structural joints in a framed structure is the emerging and widespread areas of interest in reach for past decades. The purpose for strengthening or retrofitting these RC beam-column structural joint includes various factors as concrete which is deteriorating,

Effect of Fibres on Beam Column Joint Failure

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2016
Concrete is one of the most resourceful and environmental friendly building materials. It can be cast to fit any structural shape from a cylindrical water storage tank to a rectangular beam, slabs and column in a high-rise building. In RC buildings, portions of columns that are common to beams at their intersections are called beam column joints.
