Flexible Beam-Column Joints

Volume 3c: 17th Reliability, Stress Analysis and Failure Prevention Conference, 2003
Engineering students learn to analyze beams with fixed or pinned ends. A fixed end transmits moment but does not allow rotation of the end. A pinned end allows rotation but does not transmit any moment. Neither end condition is fully achievable in practice.

A refined model for beam elements and beam–column joints

Computers & Structures, 2000
Abstract To improve the accuracy of finite element modeling of concrete frame structures, a new beam–solid transition element with refined characteristics is introduced. The refinement capability in this approach provides an accurate strain field approximation in the regions of high shear forces of beam and columns.

Efficiency of Beam–Column Joint Strengthened by FRP Laminates

Advanced Composite Materials, 2010
The recent earthquakes have shown that the vulnerability and the defects of the concrete joints in beam- column framed structures were the main causes for many building collapses. Such vulnerability and defects are in general the consequences of many factors.

Nonseismic Design of Beam-Column Joints

ACI Structural Journal, 2003
Monotonic tests on beam-column joints show that failure of the connection can either be in the beam (bending failure) or inside the joint (shear and bond failures). The behavior of exterior beam-column joints differs from that of interior connections.

Effects of Column-to-Beam Strength Ratio on Behaviour of Beam-to-Column Moment Joints

2018
Steel Moment Resisting Frames (MRFs) are believed to be very ductile structures and are highly regarded structural systems, even in areas of high seismicity. The overall ductility of a steel MRF depends on many factors, such as connection configuration, column-to-beam strength ratio, effect of joint panel zone, material and cross-sectional properties ...

14.06: Beam‐to‐column joints, column bases and joint components under impact loading

ce/papers, 2017
ABSTRACTRecent events such as natural catastrophes or terrorist attacks have highlighted the necessity to ensure the structural integrity of buildings under exceptional events. For more than 10 years, the University of Liege is strongly involved in researches on the response of structures further to such exceptional events through participations to ...

Behaviour of welded beam-to-column joints with beams of unequal depth

Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 2013
Abstract The objective of the current paper is to characterise the behaviour of internal asymmetric joints, which corresponds to a node configuration that is not yet covered in the EN 1993-1-8 design rules. For this purpose, a research programme was established that encompasses five different types of joints.

Effects of beam bar anchorage on beam–column joint behaviour

Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Structures and Buildings, 2006
Reversed cyclic-load tests are carried out on full-scale reinforced concrete (RC) exterior beam–column joints, which are fabricated to simulate those in as-built RC framed buildings designed to BS 8110. Emphasis of the study is placed on the effects of the types of beam bar anchorage and location of laps in column reinforcement on the seismic ...

Beam-to-column joint modelling to EC3

Annual ... of the Croatian Academy of Engineering, 2012
The modelling of beam to column joints is analyzed taking into account real behaviour of such joints as described by the Mj-φ curve. General considerations relating to the new joint design philosophy, as based on Eurocode 3, are given in the initial part of the paper.

Design of Beam Anchorages in Beam-Column Joints in Seismic Structures

2018
Proper anchorage of beam reinforcement in beam-column joints is necessary for a stable hysteretic behavior of seismically loaded structures subjected to large lateral displacements. Anchorage requirements associated with the use of higher strength steel such as S500 generated the need to increase the anchorage lengths and concrete strengths.
