Nitride‐Reinforced Metal Matrix Nanocomposite Powders Production by Plasma‐Assisted Thermochemical Treatment of Intermetallic Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes a new methodology for producing metal matrix nanocomposites in the solid state. The process involves the plasma‐assisted thermochemical treatment of metallic alloy powders. As a proof‐of‐concept, TiN nanoparticles are synthesized directly on the surface of FeTi intermetallic powder particles, enabling the development of the ...

Space charge compensation studies of hydrogen ion beams in a drift section

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2007
Demands of high intensity beams are increasing for material science and engineering applications. To control the high intensity beam dynamics, the nonlinear space charge forces, produced by the beam and the residual plasma at low energy, have to be ...

Non-Linear Beam Splitter in Bose-Einstein Condensate Interferometers

open access: yes, 2006
A beam splitter is an important component of an atomic/optical Mach-Zehnder interferometer. Here we study a Bose Einstein Condensate beam splitter, realized with a double well potential of tunable height.

Beam Dynamics Simulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Over the last decade, the importance of electromagnetic instabilities generated by ions backstreaming from shocks and the cometary, interplanetary or interstellar pickup ions or dust inside the solar wind or in the local interstellar medium (LISM) has been clearly established The study of beam dynamics is also important for understanding the physical ...

Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

A data-consistent model of the last glaciation in the Alps achieved with physics-driven AI

open access: yesNature Communications
25 thousand years ago, the European Alps were covered by the kilometre-thick Alpine Ice Field. Numerical modelling of this glaciation has been challenged by model-data disagreements, including overestimations of ice thickness.
