Timoshenko Beam Dynamics

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1971
The general problem of Timoshenko beam analysis is solved using the Laplace transform method. Time-dependent boundary and normal loads are considered. It is established that the integrands of the inversion integrals are always single-valued for beams of finite length and modal solutions can always be obtained using the residue theorem.

Neutral-beam dynamics

Il Nuovo Cimento B Series 11, 1978
Neutral-beam dynamics is here treated in the paraxial approximation with regard to the single-particle motion across special magnetic fields. Bending, focusing and acceleration conditions are found, both from the classical-mechanics point of view, for a neutral particle supplied with a magnetic moment, and from the quantum mechanics point view, for a ...

Ballistic dynamics of Airy beams

Optics Letters, 2008
We demonstrate both theoretically and experimentally that optical Airy beams propagating in free space can perform ballistic dynamics akin to those of projectiles moving under the action of gravity. The parabolic trajectories of these beams as well as the motion of their center of gravity were observed in good agreement with theory.

Dynamics of Laminated Timoshenko Beams

Journal of Dynamics and Differential Equations, 2017
The authors describe the long-time dynamics of a Timoshenko system consisting of two identical beams joined by a thin adhesive layer. After some transformations, the authors obtain the coupled system of three evolution equations \(\rho w_{tt}+G\varphi _{x}+g_{1}(w_{t})+f_{1}(w,\xi ,s)=h_{1}\), \(I_{\rho }\xi _{tt}-G\varphi -D\xi _{xx}+g_{2}(\xi _{t ...

Linear Beam Dynamics

1993
The general equations of motion, characterized by an abundance of perturbation terms on the right-hand side of, for example, (4.86,88) have been derived in the previous chapter. If these perturbation terms were allowed to become significant in real beam transport systems, we would face almost insurmountable mathematical problems trying to describe the ...

Dynamic Beam-to-Beam Optical Communication Link

MILCOM 2005 - 2005 IEEE Military Communications Conference, 2006
A duplex optical, free space communication system was developed to track and stabilize beam perturbations such as those resulting from atmospheric or platform disturbances. The system uses two-beam dynamic tracking and active alignment to maintain direct fiber-to-fiber beam coupling in a communication link.

Beam dynamics of cooled heavy ion beams

Conference Record of the 1991 IEEE Particle Accelerator Conference, 2002
Evaluation of the collectively modified Schottky spectra as well as beam transfer functions for Ar/sup 18+/ and Kr/sup 36+/ at 250 and 150 MeV/u, respectively, is in agreement with theoretical predictions. Maximum observed phase space densities are compared with thresholds of the microwave instability and with intrabeam scattering.

Beam Diagnostics Challenges for Beam Dynamics Studies

2017
This presentation will review the performance and limitations of present beam instrumentation in relation to beam dynamics studies, and give an overview of the main requirements from the accelerator physics community for new or improved measurements that need R&D effort from the beam diagnostics side.
