Pepper-pot emittance measurement of laser-plasma wakefield accelerated electrons
The transverse emittance is an important parameter governing the brightness of an electron beam. Here we present the first pepper-pot measurement of the transverse emittance for a mono-energetic electron beam from a laser-plasma wakefield accelerator ...

Beam quality deterioration of lasers caused by intracavity beam distortions
It is well known that beam distortions in a laser cavity can deteriorate the laser's beam quality, but why and exactly how the impact of such distortions can strongly depend on details of the resonator setup has not been studied in detail. This article clarifies the issue with a simple resonant mode coupling model, explaining e.g.

Identified through the use of statistical design of experiments and metallographic investigation, this study exposes the stochastic origins of intergranular cracks in blown powder laser beam directed energy deposition additive manufacturing of pure molybdenum. It further demonstrates a successful crack mitigation approach with direct correlation to the

Catch comparison of pulse trawls vessels and a tickler chain beam trawler
Comparative fishing trials were conducted in May 2011 (week 19) on commercial beam trawlers fishing with conventional tickler chain beam trawls (on MFV GO4), pulse wings made by HFK-Engineering of Baarn, the Netherlands (MFV TX36), and pulse trawls ...

Simulation, design and tests of a diagnostic calorimeter for the spider experiment [PDF]
One of the most critical issues for fusion reactors, to be studied in ITER (the prototype that has to prove the feasibility of production of electric energy by fusion), is the generation of sufficient energy to the sustainment of fusion reactions as well

Absorbed Dose Measurements for Teletheraphy Prediction of Superficial Dose Using Halcyon Linear Accelerator [PDF]
Introduction: Measurement of entrance dose and dose at different depth is essential to avoid over dose and under dose of patients. The aim of this study is to verify the variation in the absorbed dose using a water equivalent material.Material and ...

Effect of beam-beam kick on electron beam quality in first bunched electron cooler
Abstract The low energy RHIC electron cooler (LEReC) currently under commissioning at BNL is going to be the first non-magnetized bunched electron cooler (EC). For successful cooling LEReC requires that the electrons in the cooling section (CS) have small angles with respect to co-propagating ions. Since there is no strong magnetic field

Robust Spot Melting by 3D Spot Arrangements in Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion
This work proposes an approach to replace separately melted contours for spot melting in electron beam powder fusion. Adapting the spot arrangements close to the contour combined with stacking yields a comparable surface quality without the inherent challenges of separate contours, as demonstrated, by electron optical images and roughness measurements.
