Nonreciprocal Frequency Domain Beam Splitter
Physical Review Letters, 2021The canonical beam splitter-a fundamental building block of quantum optical systems-is a reciprocal element. It operates on forward- and backward-propagating modes in the same way, regardless of direction. The concept of nonreciprocal quantum photonic operations, by contrast, could be used to transform quantum states in a momentum- and direction ...

We propose a method for designing a diffractive beam splitter that enables the diffraction orders to be uniformly distributed within a required elliptic region. The performance of the designed optical element is demonstrated experimentally.

Reflecting polarizing beam splitter
Optics Letters, 1997We propose and experimentally demonstrate the use of metal-covered lamellar relief gratings as a polarizing beam splitter operating at a single wavelength near Littrow incidence. We report the characteristics of a grating produced by holography and reactive ion etching that was calculated for operation as beam splitter at lambda = 633 nm (for a He-Ne ...

Variable birefringent beam splitter
Applied Optics, 1981A sapphire disk is used as a variable birefringent beam splitter for the linearly polarized pump beam in an oscillator-amplifier dye laser system. Rotation of the disk varies the extent of retardation. The induced elliptical polarization results in a variable back surface reflectance between approximately 0.02-0.15 for the green spectral region ...

Photonic crystal beam splitters
Applied Optics, 2004This work studies two-dimensional photonic crystal beam splitters with two input ports and two output ports. The beam splitter structure consists of two orthogonally crossed line defects and one point defect in square-lattice photonic crystals. The point defect is positioned at the intersection of the line defects to divide the input power into output ...

Nonpolarizing beam splitter design
Applied Optics, 1983A three-step design procedure is developed for dielectric stacks which are required to be nonpolarizing for a given wavelength lambdar and angle of incidence theta 0,r, at which the reflectance Rr is prescribed. The method leads to solutions in which only three layer materials occur and can be applied for a wide range of values of theta0,r and Rr.

Optically tunable adiabatic beam splitter
Optics Letters, 1992We demonstrate that a twin-core coupler that is composed of nonlinear material with gain behaves like a tapered (linear) coupler and also has a beam-splitting ratio that is optically tunable. This conceptual approach reveals a new class of twin-core all-optical devices that exchange power adiabatically between the cores rather than by the more familiar

Diffractive variable beam splitter: optimal design
Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2000The analytical expression of the phase profile of the optimum diffractive beam splitter with an arbitrary power ratio between the two output beams is derived. The phase function is obtained by an analytical optimization procedure such that the diffraction efficiency of the resulting optical element is the highest for an actual device.

Dichroic beam splitter for convergent beams
SPIE Proceedings, 2000This paper describes a dichroic beam splitter design for convergent f/8 telescope beams with high throughput, excellent image quality and a large field of view. Ray tracing and laboratory tests demonstrate the workability of the concept. The beam splitter design is applicable in tip-tilt systems and multicolor imaging systems as well in the wavelength ...

Cylindrical vector beam-splitters
Frontiers in Optics 2011/Laser Science XXVII, 2011We show that radial and azimuthal polarizations can be separated with a circular sub-wavelength grating. The proposed grating-based beam-splitter can be used to generate cylindrical vector beams from circularly polarized light.
