Photonic crystal structures: Beam deflector and beam router [PDF]

open access: possibleChinese Physics B, 2018
We investigate the optical characteristic, transverse magnetic (TM) and transverse electric (TE) band of two-dimensional (2D) square lattice photonic crystal structure, which is composed of cylindrical air regions positioned at the corners of the square shaped dielectric rods.

Structured beam diffraction

Optics Letters, 2016
We report on the observation of a modulated pattern induced by a single laser beam in a polymeric film. In spite of the simple geometrical configuration, the analysis of the far field diffraction pattern allows a sensitive retrieving of the wavelength of the recording beam and of its incidence angle, pointing out the high information content of the ...

Truss and Beam Structures

2021
The presentation of the finite element method starts in this chapter with the explanation of the finite element method for truss and beam systems. The concept of stiffness matrices is shown first for a simple truss element. The procedure for setting up the equations for a finite element analysis is explained exemplary for a simple truss system.

Experimental study of reducing beam wander by modulating the coherence structure of structured light beams

Optics Letters, 2019
We study the beam wander of a class of structured light beams, Hermite-Gaussian correlated Schell-model (HGCSM) beams, in theory and in experiment. It is found that modulating the coherence structure of a structured light beam can reduce the turbulence-induced beam wander, i.e., a HGCSM beam with larger mode orders or lower coherence experiences ...

The structural characteristics of inflatable beams

31st Aerospace Sciences Meeting, 1993
Abstract The use of pneumatic architecture has historically been limited because of its poor performance in the areas of strength and rigidity. Yet the advent of new high strength fibers such as Allied Signal's “Spectra 1000” composed of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene offer hope for the expanded use of inflatable structures.

Target structure and in-beam electron spectra

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 1995
The main features of the interplay between the target structure and the accelerated ion beam characteristics suitable for an in-beam e-gamma measurement are discussed in detail. In particular, the different types of ''spurious'' electron (and photon) spectra overlapped with in-beam internal conversion electrons (and discrete gamma-rays) are reviewed as

Beam shifts to reflected light beams and their axial structure

SPIE Proceedings, 2014
The similarities and differences of spatial shifts to the centroids of reflected beams, and their (optical vortex) structure are discussed and reviewed. The differences between vortex-induced shifts to a beam centroid on reflection, and to the distribution of the vortices themselves is discussed. We conclude by discussing the shifts of a reflected beam
