Johan Svendsen and Two‐Dimensional Sonata Form

open access: yesMusic Analysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article discusses progressive formal strategies in the music of Johan Svendsen (1840–1911). Svendsen is one of Norway's foremost composers of large‐scale orchestral music, but his works have so far garnered scant attention in Anglophone scholarship.

Evaluation of the Volatile Sulfur Compound Stability in Breath Samples for Halitosis Remote Diagnosis

open access: yesOral Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background This study assessed the feasibility of remote halitosis diagnosis by evaluating VSC stability over 7 days and their association with periodontal parameters. Methods One hundred adult patients attending a periodontal examination were included.

Interventional human ocular safety experiments for 222‐nm far‐ultraviolet‐C lamp irradiation

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, Volume 101, Issue 2, Page 517-526, March/April 2025.
To directly assess the ocular safety of 222‐nm far‐ultraviolet‐C (UVC) irradiation in humans, five subjects were exposed to 222‐nm UVC at doses of 22, 50, and 75 mJ/cm2. The findings indicate that far‐UVC irradiation does not cause “clinically significant photokeratitis” or long‐term ocular damage, though it may induce temporary discomfort.

Laser Illuminated Imaging: Multiframe Beam Tilt Tracking and Deconvolution Algorithm

open access: yes, 2013
A laser-illuminated imaging system operating in the presence of atmospheric turbulence will encounter several sources of noise and diffraction induced errors. As the beam propagates, turbulence induced tilt will cause the beam to wander off axis from the

Spectral characterization of three wearable electronic ultraviolet radiation dosimeters

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
Excessive exposure to ultraviolet radiation poses significant public health risks, including DNA damage and skin‐related pathologies. Wearable electronic UV dosimeters enable accurate studies and quantification of solar UV‐radiation exposure on an individual level. Due to variations in the spectral distribution of solar radiation, the spectral mismatch

Teaching New Religious Movements Historically: Distance, Empathy, and Cults in the Classroom

open access: yesTeaching Theology &Religion, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Resistance to understanding the beliefs of modern New Religious Movements (NRMs) is well‐known to those who teach in the area. This paper builds on Eugene Gallagher's repurposing of “methodological belief” for college classes on NRMs by suggesting that scholars and teachers in the field of religious studies engage methods and content drawn ...

Uncovering Edtech's Embedded Values: Making the Case for Socio‐Technical Audits in Ethnographic Inquiry

open access: yesAnthropology &Education Quarterly, Volume 57, Issue 3, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Drawing on three ethnographic studies of secondary schools in England, this article makes a case for “socio‐technical audits”—a method combining technological walkthroughs with observations, workshops, and interviews—as part of ethnographic inquiry. A case example is presented to illustrate how the integration of socio‐technical audits enables

Locally correct confidence intervals for discrete sampling distributions

open access: yesStatistica Neerlandica, Volume 80, Issue 3, August 2026.
ABSTRACT When a sampling distribution is discrete, the coverage of a confidence interval follows a sequence of peaks and troughs when plotted against the value of the parameter of interest. Then methods of forming a confidence interval must either be conservative, with a coverage that is almost always above the nominal confidence level, or give a ...
