Wander of an optical beam in the turbulent atmosphere
Applied Optics, 1990A simple, analytic, geometrical optics expression for the variance of the beam displacements caused by propagation through weak refractive turbulence described by the Kolmogorov spectrum is presented. The analytical formula includes the effect of the divergence or convergence of the initial beam.

Measurement and modeling of beam wander
SPIE Proceedings, 2011We investigate the effects of beam wander on an uncorrected laser system. The goal is to enable an accurate assessment of irradiance at a receiver or target for a shipboard laser system, and in this paper we show that a maritime surface layer turbulence model is important for an accurate vertical profile.

Beam wander of a partially coherent Airy beam in oceanic turbulence
Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2018The beam wander of a partially coherent Airy beam in oceanic turbulence is investigated with the help of the extended Huygens-Fresnel integral formula. Analytical expression for the second-order moment and the beam wander of a partially coherent Airy beam propagating in oceanic turbulence is derived.

Beam Wander and the Scintillation Index
Optical Sensors and Sensing Congress, 2020Beam wander associated with a propagating beam in the atmosphere has impact on the short-term and long-term spot size, and the scintillation index. New theoretical models are presented here for beam wander and beam-wander-induced scintillation index. These models are then compared with computer simulation results.

Beam wander characteristics of cos and cosh-Gaussian beams
Applied Physics B, 2009Within the context of a general beam formulation, beam wander characteristics of cos and cosh-Gaussian beams are derived and numerically evaluated. In our graphs, the fundamental Gaussian beam is used as a benchmark for comparisons. The associated plots reveal that at small source sizes, a cos-Gaussian beam has the lowest beam wander, while this ...

Effect of beam wander on the scintillation characterization for multiple beams
SPIE Proceedings, 2013An 4km optical link was established to examine the effect of beam wander on the scintillation characterization for multiple focus beams. Multiple beams that sample different portions of the atmosphere reduce the scintillation if the atmospheric turbulence each beam traverses is independent.

Spectrum of the beam wandering noise
2010 9th International Conference on Environment and Electrical Engineering, 2010Phenomenon of the atmospheric turbulence is well-known from the optical communication systems. In communication systems, only influence of the turbulent flow on the transmitter plane wave affects the beam. In the rangefinder system, influence on the reflected spherical wave and reflecting surface changes caused by the beam wandering phenomenon are ...

Beam wander of dark hollow, flat-topped and annular beams
Applied Physics B, 2008Benefiting from the earlier derivations for the Gaussian beam, we formulate beam wander for dark hollow (DH) and flat-topped (FT) beams, also covering the annular Gaussian (AG) beam as a special case. Via graphical illustrations, beam wander variations of these beams are analyzed and compared among themselves and to the fundamental Gaussian beam ...

Beam wandering of thin parallel beams through atmospheric turbulence
Waves in Random Media, 1991Abstract Wandering and correlation of wandering of two parallel laser beams after crossing atmospheric turbulence are theoretically and experimentally investigated. A general expression is given, valid for propagation through a thick layer of turbulence, which includes as a particular case that of a path completely filled with turbulence. Two different
