Integrated optical beamformers

2015 International Topical Meeting on Microwave Photonics (MWP), 2015
This paper discusses the challenges towards the realization of the integrated microwave photonic beamformer based on hybrid integration between InP and TriPleX Si3N4/SiO2.

MIMO Beamforming

2009
Transmit beamforming improves the performance of multiple-input multiple-output antenna system (MIMO) by exploiting channel state information (CSI) at the transmitter. Numerous MIMO beamforming schemes are proposed in open literature and standard bodies such as 3GPP, IEEE 802.11n and 802.16d/e.

Combined Beamformers for Robust Broadband Regularized Superdirective Beamforming

IEEE/ACM Transactions on Audio, Speech, and Language Processing, 2015
Superdirective fixed beamformers are known to attain high directivity factors, but are extremely sensitive to uncorrelated noise and slight errors in the array elements, which are modeled by the beamformer white noise gain measure. The delay-and-sum beamformer, on the other hand, manages to maximize the white noise gain, but suffers from a very low ...

Digital beamforming in ultrasound

IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control, 1992
The effects on array gain and sidelobe level of a practical digital beamforming (DBF) processor under the wideband conditions typical of ultrasound is discussed. It is concluded that a relatively simple design that replaces each analog delay line with a tapped, digital shift register (DSR) and a digital phase shift operation adjusted for midband will ...

Comparison of compressive sampling beamforming to adaptive and conventional beamforming

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2012
Interest in the application of compressive sampling to beamforming has increased in recent years [G.F. Edelmann and C.F. Gaumond, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 130(4) EL232-EL237 (2011)]. This work compares the performance of a compressive sampling beamformer to conventional beamforming and to an adaptive beamforming algorithm which utilizes dominant mode ...

Random sampling applied to array beamforming: The aggregate beamformer

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2002
It is shown how beamforming can be accomplished by randomly sampling array elements and time-aligning the data samples. The time-aligned samples are referred to as the ‘‘aggregate’’ signal. Time-alignment is done using conventional beamforming delays but data values are not summed.

Sensor array beamforming using random channel sampling: The aggregate beamformer

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2003
The aggregate (AGG) beamformer can provide significant savings in hardware and software cost and complexity relative to conventional beamformers while retaining equivalent directional performance. The key to achieving the savings is collecting data from array channels in a random sequence, rather than simultaneously or sequentially. This allows the AGG

Spherical Array Beamforming

2015
Chapter 4 presented various ways to configure a spherical microphone array and discussed the advantages of each configuration. Once microphones are positioned in space in a desired configuration, e.g. on the surface of a rigid sphere , they can be connected to conditioning equipment, and the signal at each microphone can be recorded.

Beamforming with Noise Minimization

2015
Optimal beamformer design, as presented in Chap. 6, may be very useful, but does not take into account the properties of the specific sound field producing the signals at the microphones. In this chapter, beamforming in which the beam pattern is tailored to the actual sound field is presented.
