Beam-beam

open access: yes
The interaction of the two beams in a collider leads to a variety of effects that may limit the performance of the machine. This lecture introduces the basic aspects necessary to understand the design of modern colliders.

Affecting the Properties of Copper–Graphene Electroconductive Composite by Severe Plastic Deformation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Copper‐based composites enhanced with carbon feature convenient mechanical properties and favorable electric conductivity. Processing via deformation and thermomechanical treatments can introduce advantageous microstructures further enhancing their performance. Herein, copper–graphene powder‐based composites are directly consolidated via rotary swaging

Behaviour under cyclic loading of strengthened beams

open access: yesRevista IBRACON de Estruturas e Materiais, 2017
This work presents a study on the behavior of reinforced concrete beams strengthened in bending by the addition of concrete and steel on their tension side and having expansion bolts as shear connectors at the junction between the beam and the jacket ...

Beam-Beam Interactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
At the interaction point of a particle accelerator, various phenomena occur which are known as beam-beam effects. Incident bunches of electrons (or positrons) experience strong electromagnetic fields from the opposing bunches, which leads to electron deflection, beamstrahlung and the creation of electron/positron pairs and hadrons due to two-photon ...

LOCAL POLARIMETRY FOR PROTON BEAMS WITH THE STAR BEAM BEAM COUNTERS [PDF]

open access: yesSpin 2004, 2005
STAR collected data in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s)=200 GeV with transverse and longitudinal beam polarizations during the 2003 running period at RHIC. We present preliminary results on single transverse spin asymmetries A_N in the production of forward charged hadrons detected with the Beam-Beam Counters (BBC).

Understanding the Stochastic Nature of Process Parameter Development of Blown Powder Laser Beam Directed Energy Deposition Additive Manufacturing of Pure Molybdenum

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Identified through the use of statistical design of experiments and metallographic investigation, this study exposes the stochastic origins of intergranular cracks in blown powder laser beam directed energy deposition additive manufacturing of pure molybdenum. It further demonstrates a successful crack mitigation approach with direct correlation to the

Robust Spot Melting by 3D Spot Arrangements in Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work proposes an approach to replace separately melted contours for spot melting in electron beam powder fusion. Adapting the spot arrangements close to the contour combined with stacking yields a comparable surface quality without the inherent challenges of separate contours, as demonstrated, by electron optical images and roughness measurements.

Experimental Investigation on Flexural Strengthening of Reinforced Concrete Beams with Opening Using Heavy-Duty Metal Straps

open access: yesSulaimani Journal for Engineering Sciences
Beam openings have been proven to reduce beam strength; therefore, Strengthening is necessary to enhance the beam’s load capacity, failure mode, ductility and first cracking load.

Fostering Innovation: Streamlining Magnetocaloric Materials Research by Digitalization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetocaloric cooling (MCE) is an environmentally friendly refrigeration method with great potential. Optimizing MCE materials involves the preparation and screening of large quantities of samples, which in turn generates a large amount of data. A digitalization approach is presented that uses ontologies, knowledge graphs, and digital workflows to ...
