Performance Characteristics of Flared Bearings

Journal of Lubrication Technology, 1980
The paper offers an analysis of finite journal bearings having an axially variable clearance. Such bearings are encountered either as a consequence of manufacturing errors and wear, or as configurations specifically designed to accommodate journal misalignment. The Reynolds equation is solved for the appropriate boundary conditions and film geometry by

Germination Characteristics of Bear Oak

Southern Journal of Applied Forestry, 1977
Abstract Freshly collected bear oak (Quercus ilicifolia Wangenh.) seed from southwestern Virginia exhibited root growth under a range of temperatures but had epicotyl dormancy which was broken by stratification or gibberellic acid (GA3).

Dynamic characteristics of air bearings

Soviet Applied Mechanics, 1982
1. From the numerical values of vibration frequencies and logarithmic decrements determined with air bearings of various types over a wide range of bearing height and a wide range of air pressure in the bearing cavity under various modes of dynamic load, one can estimate the effect of such bearings as aid for dynamic testing of structures on the ...

Identification of Journal Bearing Characteristics

Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement, and Control, 1977
A new approach is proposed to the identification of the eight linearized coefficients which characterize the dynamics of a journal bearing oil-film. The use of pseudo-random binary forcing sequences is described together with cross-correlation and multiple regression analysis.

Modal Characteristics Of Asymmetrical Rotor-bearing Systems

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1993
Abstract Modal characteristics of rotors are different from conventional modal characteristics of non-rotating structures. All dynamic characteristics of rotor systems are closely related to rotor rotation, and the modal parameters of rotor systems are also closely related to rotor rotation.

Hair characteristics of four Indian bear species

Science & Justice, 2008
Dorsal guard hairs of four species of bear (family: Ursidae) found in India were characterized using light microscopy by studying features including colour, hair thickness, cuticle pattern, medulla pattern, medullary index, cross-section and scale count index.

The dynamic characteristics of hydrostatic bearings

Wear, 1993
Abstract The characteristics of hydrostatic bearings have been theoretically studied in terms of the compressibility of the air-contained oil. A formula for the stability criterion of a hydrostatic bearing system and a dynamic stiffness formula have been derived.

Characteristics of high-stiffness superconducting bearing

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1996
Magnetic bearings using a high-Tc superconductor have been studied. Generally the bearing makes use of the pinning effects to get the levitation force. The stiffness of the bearing, however, is extremely low as compared with industrial-scale conventional one.

Testing Characteristics of Bearing Metals

Scientific Lubrication, 1954
A comprehensive scheme of lubrication now being carried out for the British Ship building Research Association by the Royal Technical College, Glasgow, in their Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering has included work on journal bearings, and a paper entitled “Some Factors in the Design and Lubrication of Journal Bearings” by Prof. A. S.

Stern Bearings, Background and Characteristics

Day 1 Wed, September 20, 2000, 2000
Because existing ships cover a range of stern bearing designs, the paper starts with a brief history of the development of stern bearings and an evaluation of existing designs. It then discusses the relative energy losses in different types of bearings and some interesting experiences.
