Stability Characteristics of Floating Bush Bearings
Journal of Lubrication Technology, 1972Stability characteristics, or “oil-whip suppressing effect”, of floating bush bearings is investigated theoretically and experimentally. A theory based on the assumptions of “infinitely short bearing” and “film rupture in negative-pressure region” is derived and stability charts obtained by numerical calculations are presented.

Optimization of corrugated thrust bearing characteristics
Wear, 1993Abstract In this investigation the analysis and design of thrust bearing by a stochastic approach for the effect of the viscosity variation due to thermal effects and slip effects have been studied. To discuss the optimum design criterion the results for load capacity and frictional torque are obtained for commonly used lubricants by using the ...

Effect of Bearing Surface Characteristics on Bearing Oil Film Thickness
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1989<div class="htmlview paragraph">The most widely used method of measuring bearing oil film thickness (BOFT) is the “capacitance technique”. It has two implicit assumptions that need to be carefully considered. These are: <ol class="list nostyle"> <li class="list-item"><span class="li-label">(1)</span> <div class ...

Performance Characteristics of Compliant Journal Bearings
Journal of Tribology, 1991This investigation of compliant journal bearings is directed toward the fundamental behavior characteristics which are necessary when compliance is factored into the final design. Analytical determintation of performance characteristics are shown as a function of the bearing flexibility. As the deformation coefficient increases, load capacity decreases,

Tribological characteristics of needle bearings
1989A Needle Bearing Test Rig has been constructed which allows the measurement of frictional torque, axial thrust, needle axial skew angle, and needle complement velocity for an applied radial load of up to 3500 N and a speed of up to 7000 rpm. Either shaft rotation or cup rotation can be accommodated.

Load bearing characteristics of ceramic refractories
JOM, 1967This paper describes the underlying mechanisms of deformation of refractories at high temperatures. Equations for deformation by consolidation of pores and by slumping are developed.

Characteristics of a hydrostatic thrust bearing
International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 1962Summary The static and dynamic behaviour of a hydrostatic thrust bearing has been fully analysed starting from the Navier-Stokes equations for two-dimensional flow. An expression has been derived giving the force exerted by the oil in terms of the variables, amplitude of vibration, thickness of oil film and frequency.

Characteristics of ring permanent magnet bearing
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1984Permanent magnet bearings are useful for elements of super flywheels and super high vacuum pumps because of their simple construction and no losses. This paper describes a calculation method for forces between pairs of ring permanent magnets with small displacements from a center line of equilibrium.

THE CHARACTERISTICS OF SILICONE BEARING LUBRICANTS
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1958<div class="htmlview paragraph">Research and development in the electric motor field have created the need for anti-friction bearing lubricants with long life and operability over an ever broadening temperature range. Silicone greases meet the requirements of many such applications.

Characteristics of Centrally Supported Journal Bearings
Journal of Fluids Engineering, 1942Abstract The primary purpose of the study reported in this paper is to determine the load capacity and friction of journal bearings having arcs of contact of 80 to 120 deg, eccentricity ratios ranging from zero to unity, length-width ratios ranging from zero to infinity, and central support.
