On the High Speed Capacity of Bearingless Drives
IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2014With soaring raw material costs, the need for smaller drives running at higher speeds is ever increasing. In parallel, magnetic bearings and bearingless drives have outgrown the purely academic level and are the state of the art solution for several industrial processes.

Impact of a bearingless machine on a shaft's rotodynamics: control of a single winding bearingless machine [PDF]
The aerospace industry is investigating more electrical aircraft since the early 90's. This electrification process in the aerospace industry look at replacing more and more hydraulic and mechanical actuator into electric and electromagnetic ones. The surge in electrical components in the aircraft leads to an increase in electric power consumption. For

Modeling and control of an unbalanced magnetic rotor-bearing system as a bearingless motor [PDF]
Purpose This paper is concerned with the design and analysis of a bearingless motor. Design/methodology/approach The bearingless motor is obtained by a regular three-pole active magnetic bearing with an intentionally attached unbalanced mass on the ...

A bearingless method for induction machines
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1993A bearingless induction motor system that uses standard windings is proposed. The theoretical assumptions are tested experimentally using a four-pole, two-phase machine without one mechanical bearing. The basic idea is the modulation of the stator winding currents to achieve positioning and rotary forces.

Design and analysis of the bearingless planetary gearbox
2017 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS), 2017High performance legged and mobile manipulating robotic platforms require light weight actuators with high torque density, efficiency, and accuracy. This paper introduces a new type of high reduction bearingless gearbox which is based on a gearbox with double-row planetary pinion, and can achieve high reduction ratios in a single composite stage.

Design Considerations for Bearingless Rotary Pumps
Artificial Organs, 1997Abstract: The designs of rotary blood pumps have shown substantial technical progress over recent years, especially contact bearing designs. However, the concern for potential thromboembolism remains and can only be eliminated by the use of bearingless pumps.
