Bears into the Niche-Space: Phylogeography and Phyloclimatic Model of the Family Ursidae
Assessing niche evolution remains an open question and an actively developing area of study. The family Ursidae consists of eight extant species for which, despite being the most studied family of carnivores, little is known about the influence of ...

Capture, anesthesia, and disturbance of free-ranging brown bears (Ursus arctos) during hibernation. [PDF]
We conducted thirteen immobilizations of previously collared hibernating two- to four-year-old brown bears (Ursus arctos) weighing 21-66 kg in central Sweden in winter 2010 and 2011 for comparative physiology research. Here we report, for the first time,

Cooperative production and efficiency [PDF]
We characterize the sharing rule for which a contribution mechanism achieves efficiency in a cooperative production setting when agents are heterogeneous. The sharing rule bears no resemblance to those considered by the previous literature.

The LINC01116 long noncoding RNA is induced by hypoxia and associated with poor prognosis and high recurrence rates in two cohorts of lung adenocarcinoma patients. Here, we demonstrate that besides its expression in cancer cells, LINC01116 is markedly expressed in lymphatic endothelial cells of the tumor stroma in which it participates in hypoxia ...

ATF4‐mediated stress response as a therapeutic vulnerability in chordoma
We screened 5 chordoma cell lines against 100+ inhibitors of epigenetic and metabolic pathways and kinases and identified halofuginone, a tRNA synthetase inhibitor. Mechanistically halofuginone induces an integrated stress response, with eIF2alpha phosphorylation, activation of ATF4 and its target genes CHOP, ASNS, INHBE leading to cell death ...

THE GENUS URSUS IN EURASIA: DISPERSAL EVENTS AND STRATIGRAPHICAL SIGNIFICANCE
On the basis of the results of former studies by the present authors five main groups of bears are recognized: Ursus gr. minimus - thibetanus (black bears), Ursus gr. etruscus (etruscan bears), Ursus gr. arctos (brown bears), Ursus gr.

Behaviour of solitary adult Scandinavian brown bears (Ursus arctos) when approached by humans on foot. [PDF]
Successful management has brought the Scandinavian brown bear (Ursus arctos L.) back from the brink of extinction, but as the population grows and expands the probability of bear-human encounters increases.

Prolonged transition time between colostrum and mature milk in a bear, the giant panda, Ailuropoda melanoleuca [PDF]
Bears produce the most altricial neonates of any placental mammal. We hypothesized that the transition from colostrum to mature milk in bears reflects a temporal and biochemical adaptation for altricial development and immune protection.

We show that the majority of the 18 analyzed recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming. The most potent mutations are activating, co‐operate with other ERBB receptors, and are sensitive to pan‐ERBB inhibitors. Activating ERBB4 mutations also promote therapy resistance in EGFR‐mutant lung cancer.
