Vibrational Beating in Two-Dimensional Electronic Spectra

2009
We trace vibrational wavepacket motion in two-dimensional electronic spectra of a two-level electronic system. The vibronic evolution induces a periodic beating pattern of the diagonal-to-antidiagonal peak width ratio in the absorptive signal part and a periodic tilt of the nodal line in the dispersive signal part.

Seismic vibration testing with sine beats

Nuclear Engineering and Design, 1973
Abstract Analytical developments and testing procedures are presented for a method of testing nuclear power plant equipment under simulated seismic excitations. The method utilizes a standard shape of input motion considered to envelop most of the usual seismic time histories at the supports of the equipment.

Coherent Vibrational Quantum Beats as a Probe of Langmuir−Blodgett Monolayers

The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2005
We combine frequency- and femtosecond time-domain measurements of vibrational coherences for spectroscopic characterization of surface monolayer films, utilizing 3-wave mixing as the surface-selective technique. Frequency-domain spectra in the CH-stretch region are obtained by infrared + visible sum frequency generation (SFG).

Beating motion of a circular cylinder in vortex-induced vibrations

Fluid Dynamics Research, 2018
In this paper, beating phenomenon of a circular cylinder in vortex-induced vibration is studied by numerical simulations in a systematic manner. The cylinder mass coefficients of 2 and 10 are considered, and the Reynolds number is 150. Two distinctive frequencies, namely cylinder oscillation and vortex shedding frequencies, are obtained from the ...

Beats on a vibrating string

The Physics Teacher, 1999
I showed Derrick Boucher’s acoustic demonstration of beats and interference to a colleague, and as we were talking I mentioned that the function generator could be hooked to mechanical wave drivers to obtain nice standing waves. Then it’s possible to verify that law of vibrating strings. However, we kept coming back to the concept of beats.

Quantum beating of vibrational factor group components in molecular solidsa)

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1983
We report the first observation of coherent Raman induced quantum beats from exciton states in molecular crystals. The paper describes the relevant crystal optics and phasematching conditions needed to ensure coherent excitation of more than one Raman transition in an anisotropic solid.

Vibrational quantum beats observed by Raman-induced optical Kerr effect

Molecular Physics, 1995
Ultra fast molecular motion in liquids may be studied in the time domain with the pump/probe optical heterodyne-detected (OHD) Raman-induced optical Kerr effect (RIKE) technique, which makes use of ultra short pulses from a mode-locked laser. The oscillatory signal observed is attributed to vibrational quantum interference, and a detailed theoretical ...

Breaths and beats: Vibrating at the borders of memory

Dance Research Aotearoa, 2020
Writing out of dancing how do I address the dynamic, troubled, testing, transforming, vibrant and inventive work of dance through a dialogue with the past? How might the inter-corporeal transmission of learning to dance from a renowned teacher of a European style of modern expressive dance in Ōtepoti, Dunedin, Aotearoa instil lifelong values and ...

Delayed-coincidence Mössbauer and quantum-beat measurements of a vibrating source

Physics Letters A, 1985
Abstract Mossbauer and quantum-beat spectra of a 57 Co source vibrating with a frequency of about 10 MHz were measured in delayed coincidence with the 122 keV radiation feeding the 14.4 keV transition. The results are in reasonable agreement with the optical theory.

Bridge vibration logarithmic decrement estimation at the presence of amplitude beat

Measurement, 2011
Abstract Logarithmic decrement is one of the key dynamic parameters characterizing bridge status. It is usually estimated from vibration records applying digital signal processing. Among the processing procedures band-pass filtering is commonly used to extract spectral components of interest.
