Visible optical beats at the hertz level

open access: yes, 2014
We present a lecture demonstration which produces a visible, beating interference pattern that is the optical analog of demonstrations which produce audible, beating sound-wave interference.

Predictors of response and rational combinations for the novel MCL‐1 inhibitor MIK665 in acute myeloid leukemia

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study characterizes the responses of primary acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patient samples to the MCL‐1 inhibitor MIK665. The results revealed that monocytic differentiation is associated with MIK665 sensitivity. Conversely, elevated ABCB1 expression is a potential biomarker of resistance to the treatment, which can be overcome by the combination ...

Quantum magnetotransport in a bilayer MoS2: influence of a perpendicular electric field

open access: yes, 2017
We first derive the energy dispersion of bilayer MoS$_{2}$ in the presence of a perpendicular electric field $E_z$. We show that the band gap and layer splitting can be controlled by the field $E_z$.

High-resolution 3D optical microscopy inside the beating zebrafish heart using prospective optical gating [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
3D fluorescence imaging is a fundamental tool in the study of functional and developmental biology, but effective imaging is particularly difficult in moving structures such as the beating heart.

Developing evidence‐based, cost‐effective P4 cancer medicine for driving innovation in prevention, therapeutics, patient care and reducing healthcare inequalities

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The cancer problem is increasing globally with projections up to the year 2050 showing unfavourable outcomes in terms of incidence and cancer‐related deaths. The main challenges are prevention, improved therapeutics resulting in increased cure rates and enhanced health‐related quality of life.

Beat-to-beat determinants of the beat-to-beat temporal and spatial variability of repolarization [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Electrocardiology, 2016
The goal of this study was to compare the time series predictors of beat-to-beat variability in repolarization in healthy individuals.Spatial QRS- and T-vector amplitudes, spatial QRS-T, RR' and TT' angles, RR' and QT intervals, and QRS- and T-loop roundness were measured on 453 consecutive sinus beats in 168 healthy subjects (mean age 39.8±15.6years ...

Beating of monopole modes in nuclear dynamics [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Time-dependent Hartree-Fock simulations of the evolution of excited gold fragments have been performed. The observed dynamics appears more complex than the collective expansion picture.

Alcohol‐induced altered glycans in human tracheal epithelial cells promote bacterial adhesion

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Alcohol induces altered glycans to promote bacteria adhesion. Heavy alcohol drinking is known to increase the risk of bacterial pneumonia. However, the link between alcohol levels and risk of infection remains underexplored. Recently, we found that alcohol induced α2‐6sialo mucin O‐glycans in human tracheobronchial epithelial cells, which mediated the ...

Fibrinogen Changes Before and After Intravenous Thrombolysis as Predictors of Cerebral Injury and Clinical Outcomes in Acute Ischemic Stroke: A Multicenter Prospective Cohort Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Plasma fibrinogen is essential in thrombosis and fibrinolysis, yet its dynamic changes pre‐ and post‐intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) for predicting brain injury severity and prognosis in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients remain unclear.
