Today, beavers are represented by two species, the Eurasian beaver and the North American beaver. Though these are the last remaining representatives of a once much larger consortium of animals, they have played a significant role in human history and dominated wetland ecology in the northern hemisphere.

Also known as the sliver of liver, beaver tail liver is an anatomic variation of the liver where its left lobe extends laterally to contact and enclose the spleen. Hepatic parenchyma is normal. It may be difficult to distinguish the two organs from each other when both have equal echogenicity or density in ultrasonography and computed tomography ...

Ten wild beavers were anesthetized with pentobarbital and total lung capacity (60.5 +/- 4.8 ml/kg), hemoglobin (12.4 +/- 1.5 g/100 ml), blood volume (6.5 +/- 0.8% body mass), and myoglobin (1.2 +/- 0.3 g/100 mg) were determined. These measured values were used to calculate total oxygen storage capacity.
