Bed-load transport in steep channels
1991In this paper, hydraulic resistance, critical tractive force and bed-load discharge in steep gravel-bed channels are investigated. If the velocity distribution, which is much affected by small relative submergence, is formulated, the resistance law, dimensionless critical tractive force and bed-load formula can be reasonably predicted, and they are ...

The nature of saltation and of ‘bed-load’ transport in water
Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. A. Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1973Abstract Owing to observational difficulties the distinction between a ‘suspended’ load of solids transported by a stream and a ‘ bed-load ’ has long remained undefined. Recently, however, certain critical experiments have thrown much light on the nature of bed-load transport.

Transport layer structure in intense bed-load
2011We report laboratory experiments on intense bed‐load driven by turbulent open‐channel flows. Using high‐speed cameras and a laser light sheet, we measured detailed profiles of granular velocity and concentration near the sidewall. The profiles provide new information on transport layer structure and its relation to the applied Shields stress.
