Bed load sheets and bed load fluctuation in gravel bed experiments

The purpose of this research was to investigate the effects of grain sorting on bed load. Flume experiments were performed over graded sediment, for long durations, and a wide range of flow conditions. No equilibrium slope was obtained whatever the run and the experiment duration (up to more than 60 hours).

The Bed-Load Function

A simple derivation of the bed-load function has been presented. It was shown that the jump length of detached particles need not be assumed constant, and by treating it as a random variable, that it is only its mean value that influences the rate of transport regardless of what its probability density function may be.

Variability of bed load measurement
