Pollen Removal by Bumble Bees and Its Implications for Pollen Dispersal

Ecology, 1990
Realized paternity should decelerate with increased allocation of resources to male function for hermaphroditic plants. If these diminishing returns result from the pollination process, total pollen dispersal would be maximized by restricting removal by individual pollinators and using the services of all available pollinators.

Skull removal in MR images using a modified artificial bee colony optimization algorithm

Technology and Health Care, 2014
Removal of the skull from brain Magnetic Resonance (MR) images is an important preprocessing step required for other image analysis techniques such as brain tissue segmentation. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm based on the Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) optimization algorithm to remove the skull region from brain MR images.

Brood removal influences fall ofVarroa destructorin honey bee colonies

Journal of Apicultural Research, 2015
The hygienic removal of Apis mellifera brood infested with Varroa destructor disrupts the reproduction of the infesting mites, and exposes the foundress mites to potential removal from the colony by grooming. Using brood deliberately infested with marked mites, we investigated the association between the removal of mite-infested brood and the removal ...

Can Honey Bees Learn the Removal of a Stimulus as a Conditioning Cue?

Ethology, 2010
AbstractExperiments investigated a Pavlovian conditioning situation where the presence and absence of the stimulus are reversed temporally with respect to the presentation of a reward. Instead of a conditioned stimulus (e.g. odor) signaling the presence of a reward, the stimulus (e.g.

[Insect venom allergy. Removing the sting of killer bees!].

MMW Fortschritte der Medizin, 2001
Systemic anaphylactic reactions to bee or wasp stings are potentially life-threatening. Up to 5% of the population are affected. In the large majority of patients, an insect venom allergy can be diagnosed on the basis of the medical history, skin tests and determination of venom-specific serum IgE antibodies.
