Diversity, recombination and misclassification in the family Geminiviridae: Insight from bioinformatics analysis. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE
The family Geminiviridae comprises 15 genera and over 500 species of diverse plant-infecting viruses. Previous studies on this virus's diversity primarily focused on the members' selection without considering the entire genomic divergence.

Molecular Characterization and Pathogenicity of Watermelon Isolates of Begomovirus cucurbitachinaense. [PDF]

open access: yesInt J Mol Sci
Squash leaf curl China virus (SLCCNV) belongs to the species Begomovirus cucurbitachinaense in the genus Begomovirus and can infect some Cucurbitaceae crops except for watermelon (Citrullus lanatus). In this study, watermelon plants showing symptoms typical to begomovirus infection in field were observed in Zhejiang Province of China, and SLCCNV ...

Gene Overlapping as a Modulator of Begomovirus Evolution [PDF]

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2022
In RNA viruses, which have high mutation—and fast evolutionary— rates, gene overlapping (i.e., genomic regions that encode more than one protein) is a major factor controlling mutational load and therefore the virus evolvability. Although DNA viruses use host high-fidelity polymerases for their replication, and therefore should have lower mutation ...

Transmissão de begomovírus de plantas daninhas para tomateiros pela mosca-branca Begomovirus transmission from weeds to tomato by the whitefly

open access: yesPlanta Daninha, 2010

Begomovirus Caboniensis: a New Bipartite Begomovirus Isolated From Cnidoscolus Urens in Brazil

open access: yes, 2021
Abstract A novel bipartite begomovirus infecting Cnidoscolus urens (Euphorbiaceae) from Pernambuco State, Brazil has been characterized. The complete DNA-A (2657 to 2692 nt) and DNA-B (2622 nt) components of the viral isolates showed a typical genome organization of New World bipartite begomoviruses.
