Association of an atypical alphasatellite with a bipartite New World begomovirus

Archives of Virology, 2010
The complete sequence of a watermelon-infecting Venezuelan begomovirus was obtained; it corresponds to that of the partially characterized melon chlorotic mosaic virus (MeCMV). MeCMV is a typical bipartite New World begomovirus. A putative alphasatellite, MeCMVa1, was found associated with MeCMV.

Begomovirus infection in tomato fruit

2017
In an era of globalization and increased food trade, and considering the implementations of climate change on establishment of pathogens into new areas, it is of importance to monitor traded plant material for the presence of plant pathogens. Tomato is economically one of the most important vegetable crop worldwide and it is susceptible to more than ...

Letter to the Editor: Mastrevirus sequences in a begomovirus-infected plant

Virus Genes, 2012
Recombination is a major driver of diversification of geminiviruses and is believed to be, for a large part, responsible for the present taxonomic structure of the family Geminiviridae. Examples of recent intergeneric recombination between viruses of the genera Begomovirus and Mastrevirus remain to be identified.

Complementation of bipartite begomovirus movement functions by topocuviruses and curtoviruses

Archives of Virology, 2001
The DNA A components of bipartite species of the genus Begomovirus (family Geminiviridae) encode all viral functions required for replication and encapsidation but require gene products encoded on DNA B for cell-to-cell movement in plants. We demonstrate that geminiviruses of the genera Curtovirus and Topocuvirus are able to trans-complement efficient ...

Begomovirus Disease Management Measures, Now and Then

2017
The diseases caused by genus Begomovirus (family Geminiviridae) are limiting factors in the sustainable crop production throughout the world and majorly in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Furthermore, liberalization of agriculture led to change in the agricultural practices and developed significant opportunities for whitefly-borne ...
