A New Tomato-Infecting Begomovirus in Barbados
In September 1998, tomato plants in Barbados exhibited symptoms of severe leaf curling without marginal chlorosis. These symptoms were often associated with an increase in whitefly (Bemisia tabaci) populations. DNA was extracted from leaf tissue from symptomatic tomato plants.

Red-light is an environmental effector for mutualism between begomovirus and its vector whitefly
Environments such as light condition influence the spread of infectious diseases by affecting insect vector behavior. However, whether and how light affects the host defense which further affect insect preference and performance, remains unclear, nor has

Begomoviruses (Geminiviridae family) represent a severe constraint to agriculture worldwide. As ssDNA viruses that replicate in the nuclei of infected cells, the nascent viral DNA has to move to the cytoplasm and then to the adjacent cell to cause ...

Global Scenario of Begomovirus Diseases in Vegetable Crops
Whitefly-transmitted begomoviruses are the major threats to the cultivation of vegetable crops worldwide. Begomoviruses infecting vegetables have a broad host range and are distributed among all continents in which vegetables are grown in open fields and

Characterization of Curtovirus V2 Protein, a Functional Homolog of Begomovirus V2
Geminiviruses are single-stranded DNA plant viruses with circular genomes packaged within geminate particles. Among the Geminiviridae family, Begomovirus and Curtovirus comprise the two best characterized genera.

Apoptosis in a Whitefly Vector Activated by a Begomovirus Enhances Viral Transmission
Of the approximately 1,100 known plant viruses, about one-third are DNA viruses that are vectored by insects. Plant virus infections often induce cellular and molecular responses in their insect vectors, which can, in many cases, affect the spread of ...

Impact of some crop management practices on tomato infestation/infection by the whitefly-begomovirus complex in Cuba [PDF]
Introduction. In the framework of the INCO-BETOCARIB Project titled "Begomovirus disease management for sustainable production of tomato in the Caribbean" which operated from 2003- 2006, we conducted a survey aiming at assessing the impact of cultural ...
