Adsorption behavior and activity of hexokinase

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2006
The study on the adsorption of hexokinase (HK) onto silicon wafers was carried out by means of in situ ellipsometry and atomic force microscopy in the liquid. The thickness values of the adsorbed HK layer determined by both techniques were in excellent agreement and evidenced HK monolayer formation.

Conditioned activation of fetal behavior

Physiology & Behavior, 1991
Previous demonstrations of prenatal learning have relied upon experimental protocols involving training at one gestational age and testing at a later age, potentially confounding effects of experience and retention with developmental changes in the fetus's behavioral repertoire.

Autoanalgesia: Behaviorally activated antinociception

European Journal of Pharmacology, 1977
Endogenous control of nociception has been suggested by postulates of the gate control theory of pain (Melzack and Wall, 1965). Recent research has indicated that lesion-induced hyperemotionality and con- ditioned fear effectively elicit antinociception in the rat (Rosecrans and Chance, 1976).

Activation and Behavior

Archives of General Psychiatry, 1963
Activation, says Elizabeth Duffy, is ... " the arousal which occurs in the absence of physical exertion, or the arousal found when we subtract from measures of activation the effects of physical activity .... Activation is .... the extent of release of the stored energy of the organism through metabolic activity in the tissues." The author believes ...

Behavioral Activation for Pathological Grief

Death Studies, 2013
The death of a significant other often entails far-reaching changes in individuals' life that can contribute to pathological grief responses. This article reviews 3 prominent theories of grief resolution, highlights common factors proposed to be associated with pathological grief responses, and suggests that behavioral activation (Martell, Addis ...

Designing for hourly activity sampling in behavioral activation

Proceedings of the 11th EAI International Conference on Pervasive Computing Technologies for Healthcare, 2017
This position paper presents our preliminary design of a smartphone-based behavioral activation method for unipolar disorder. The method relies on extensive collection of patient generated data on hourly activity. We report on the background for the study and the methods applied in the ongoing design process. The paper ends by discussing the challenges

Children's activities and their behavior: Are activities worth manipulating?

Child Psychiatry & Human Development, 1984
One key concern of child mental health professionals is the structuring of children's activities so as to enhance their positive behavior and minimize their negative behavior. This paper addresses the relationship between activities and child behavior through a brief review of the literature and a report of a two-fold study which found (1) no ...

Behavioral Compatibility of Active Components

2008 Sixth IEEE International Conference on Software Engineering and Formal Methods, 2008
In this paper we present a new approach for dealing with the components compatibility in connection with their suitable properties be it safety or liveness ones. Hence, instead of using behavior models of components or their interaction protocols alone to check their compatibility, we suggest to combine them to achieve this purpose.

Active Behaviors in Living Cells

Annales Henri Poincaré, 2003
We review work on the force and motion generation in cells. Starting from the physics of individual motor molecules, we discuss how complex dynamic behaviors emerge from the interplay of many active elements. The concepts developed for simple systems can be used to adress the active mechanical properties of complex cellular structures.

BEHAVIOR-BASED ACTIVE VISION

International Journal of Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence, 1994
A vision system was built using a behavior-based model, the subsumption architecture. The so-called active eye moves the camera’s axis through the environment, detecting areas with high concentration of edges, with the help of a kind of saccadic movement.
