Price, Maintenance Cost, Infrastructure Readiness, and Attitude: An Integrated Model of Electric Vehicle (EV) Purchase Intention

open access: yesVehicles
In response to the increasing global emphasis on sustainability, electric vehicles (EVs) have emerged as promising alternative vehicles. Grounded in the Value–Attitude–Behaviour (VAB) model and the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB), this study ...

A high level e-maintenance architecture to support on-site teams [PDF]

open access: yes
Emergent architectures and paradigms targeting reconfigurable manufacturing systems increasingly rely on intelligent modules to maximize the robustness and responsiveness of modern installations. Although intelligent behaviour significantly minimizes the

The role of self-determined motivation in the understanding of exercise-related behaviours, cognitions and physical self-evaluations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Grounded in self-determination theory (Deci & Ryan, 1985), the purpose of the present study was to examine whether motivation, self-determined and controlling types of motivation could predict a range of exercise-related behaviours, cognitions and ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Survival of the Fittest: Evidence-based Interventions for Physical Inactivity Amongst Student Populations

open access: yesJANZSSA, 2017
Lack of physical activity is a problem amongst student populations given their large proportion of desk-bound activity. Attrition from physical activity programs is widespread.

Does Familiarity breed inattention? Why drivers crash on the roads they know best [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This paper describes our research into the nature of everyday driving, with a particular emphasis on the processes that govern driver behaviour in familiar, well - practiced situations.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Influence of the arch thickness discontinuities on the seismic capacity of masonry bridges [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Arch bridges still represent a large component of rail and road infrastructure on the European continent. Their operation and safety maintenance is one of the main aims of the rail and road infrastructure managers.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...
