A novel circumscription and classification for Neurolaeneae (Asteraceae)

open access: yesTAXON, EarlyView.
Abstract Neurolaeneae (Asteraceae) have a complicated taxonomic history. The tribe was described in 1927, but subsequently disregarded in 1977, and later reinstated as a tribe following a large‐scale phylogenetic analysis of Asteraceae in 2002. To date, this tribe has remained poorly studied and it has never been the subject of a comprehensive ...

Acute Inhalation Exposure to Ultrafine Carbon Black Alters Mitochondrial Substrate Utilization in the Heart

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A majority of deaths associated with air pollution are attributed to cardiovascular and heart diseases. Carbon black that represents the carbon core of particulate matter, a major component of air pollution, has been shown to result in cardiac mitochondrial dysfunction.

Expanding Access to Orthopedic Trauma Care: Evaluation of a Task‐Sharing Model With a Remote Quality Assessment Tool for Open Tibia Shaft Fractures in Malawi

open access: yesWorld Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
When embedded within integrated surgical teams and adequate infrastructure, task sharing for open fracture external fixation yielded satisfactory technical performance but lagged district‐level implementation despite training. Comprehensive institutional support—mentoring intensity, equipment, supply chains, and referral adherence—is likely required ...

A comparison of thermal drones and camera trap population estimates for Sitka black‐tailed deer in Alaska

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
One of the most difficult challenges for wildlife managers is reliably estimating wildlife populations. Camera traps combined with spatial capture–recapture (SCR) models are a popular tool for population estimation. They have limitations, however, including long data processing times.

Dietary differentiation of two co‐occurring common bat species (Eptesicus nilssonii and Pipistrellus pygmaeus)

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Sympatric bat species can co‐exist and avoid interspecific competition via niche differentiation e.g. diet. Detecting dietary differences can be achieved by comparing dietary niches of sympatric and allopatric populations. If dietary overlap is higher in sympatry versus allopatry, co‐occurrence may be altering the dietary niche of the species.
