The symbol of the crescent Moon with a star on Ancient and Medieval coins [PDF]
The individual phases of the moon show us this nocturnal satellite subjected to the laws of a cycle of dying and rising. In ancient times different peoples honoured the moon and the stars and felt connected to them in some way.

Biomimetic Iridescent Skin: Robust Prototissues Spontaneously Assembled from Photonic Protocells
Uniform nanoparticles are induced to form arrays (photonic crystals) in the cores of biopolymer capsules, endowing these ‘protocells’ with structural color. These protocells are then assembled into large self‐standing objects, i.e., prototissues, with robust mechanical properties as well as iridescent optical properties.

On Properties of Update Sequences Based on Causal Rejection
We consider an approach to update nonmonotonic knowledge bases represented as extended logic programs under answer set semantics. New information is incorporated into the current knowledge base subject to a causal rejection principle enforcing that, in ...

Multiple Twinning in Nacre and Aragonite
Electron backscatter diffraction map of a cluster of geologic aragonite, exhibiting single, double, and triple twins. The whole cluster is approximately 2 cm wide. Colors indicate crystal orientations, so that pixels where the a‐, b‐, and c‐axis is perpendicular to the image plane are green, red, and blue, respectively.

Term-based composition of security protocols
In the context of security protocol parallel composition, where messages belonging to different protocols can intersect each other, we introduce a new paradigm: term-based composition (i.e.

Hybrid Scaffolds Decouple Biochemical & Biophysical Regulation of Cell Phenotype
Replicating tissue‐specific extracellular matrix is crucial for understanding its role in disease. This work demonstrates independent control over stiffness, composition and 3D collagen architecture using hybrid scaffolds: patterned collagen perfused with defined hydrogels.

Porous Iridium Oxide Inverse Opal Catalysts Enable Efficient PEM Water Electrolysis
Porous iridium‐based inverse opal (IrOx‐IO) structures are introduced as high‐performance, unsupported PEM‐WE anode catalysts. Their electrochemical behavior is analyzed through porosity/surface area tuning, voltage breakdown, and circuit modeling.

Magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJs) using MgO tunnel barriers face challenges of high resistance‐area product and low tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR). To discover alternative materials, Literature Enhanced Ab initio Discovery (LEAD) is developed. The LEAD‐predicted materials are theoretically evaluated, showing that MTJs with dusting of ScN or TiN on ...
